Sooo, the other night this thought popped into my head when I was supposed to be sleeping...around here growing up we called venison Deer meat, not venison, even though we knew the correct terminology.
Just wondering if this was a local / regional thing only , or if it was common other places?

Seems lately the younger guys have taken to calling it venison, maybe because of all the hunting shows, anyway, , just curious, but I still call it deer meat,

Probably,.....Forgot to mention, If anybody ever found their way north and shot a moose, we called that "Moose meat", lol

Always called it venison as did my paternal grandfather.

My maternal danish immigrant grandfather called it deer meat and viewed it as inferior.

Because of that I viewed people who said "deer meat" as not knowing better.

deer meat around here. You call it venison and you automatically identify yourself as a yankee.

Think we interchange around here like horns and antlers

Deer , elk or antelope so you know what your getting. Unless its burger then its just burger. We dont do roasts so its elk steaks or elk taco etc or hamburger gravy , burgers .

Real men shoot deer and eat deer meat.
Light-loafered, non-binary, yankee city slickers 'harvest' them and call it venison.

All I know is I'm out of it. I need to fill my freezer asap once the season starts in September.
