I don't care what you want to blame the price change on. Prices of everything change daily by supply and demand. Directly or indirectly. I think I get what you're saying but the point I'm making is without the CV hiccup; supply is still short, prices still great and collectors trying to get all they can. There hasn't been more castor produced this year than last year or the year before that. Exactly,, that is why the price drop. Market saturated. Supply is not short any longer. Everyone sold a month or more ago and most orders are filled. I had one member contact me and offered a pretty good price for the Castor I have to complete and order he has to fill this week. That means the order was taken at a higher price so he can pay more. Future orders will catch less. CV might have a small hand in the drop but it is my opinion that it was going to crash soon anyway. Another thing to put in the equation is the fact that I spent less on gas to gather 2 pounds of Castor in the past couple.weeks than it did to cater 1/2 pound in fall.
Wish I had more time to trap....

My take on it is that the market is bottlenecked and the supply can't easily get to the end user. Mainly because of everything being shut down and borders closed.
Uncertainty on the part of the end user on how much they need to acquire for the future is also likely being shaken up a little by the pandemic.
Every year guesses are made about how much castor will be produced. Since the beaver fur market continues to be anemic the speculation is that there will not be enough castor to meet demand. Therefore the prices the end users tell the collectors they can commit to go up. That has been happening with prices increasing every year for about the last 4-5 years. (Right along with the weak beaver market).
I have not seen any evidence that north america has produced any more castor this year (up to this point) than what end users/collectors originally speculated. So market saturation or over supply is not logical. At least for now.

You don't have a clue, supply is still short. The beaver harvest is a pittance of what it once was.
