We have had typical Mourning Doves at our feeder for many years, and they over-winter here as well. In the last couple days I have been seeing 2 Eurasian Collared doves coming in and feeding. They do not seem to hang out with the Mourning Doves. One of them is nearly all white with a black neck ring and dark grey wing feathers. The other one is darker but with the ring on the neck. I thought at first they may be "escapees" from somewhere.

Did a little research and it appears they are an invasive however it does not seem like they do any harm. Anybody know if they interbreed with the Mourning Doves?

We have them in many places here mostly on towns and around the farm places seldom far from people it seems, they make a lot of racket during the breed.

No protections here as they are a invasive species open anytime I pop a few in the fall for cage traps some years, if I remember someone said they carry or did carry a bird virus in past years.

Moosetrot -

Apparently, no interbreeding. Also, as Eurasian collared doves spread across North America, there was talk about them out-competing mourning doves for food and perhaps even for nesting sites. Recent literature I can find pretty much dispels any competition. Most states, however, treat them as a recent invasive and do not have closed seasons or bag limits.

I've been taking advantage of their "invasiveness" for several years now. The weight of a cleaned breast is just about twice that of a mourning dove and the meat is very similar (I can't tell any difference in taste). They can be pretty sporty as well, especially with a beat up old pellet gun.

We have them here also. They do taste good and are larger in size than regular morning doves.

They are spooky, I hear they chase off morning doves and knock nests down

Law Dog- I always thought that they only had a season when mourning doves were open because they were too easy to confuse in flight. But, I just looked in the regs and it doesn't say anything about them. I guess if I had a pellet rifle with a nice little scope to id them 100%, I'd whack them too when needed. I haven't dropped one yet during dove season but I don't get out much for that season much anymore.

Invasive species down here...don’t count towards your limit during regular dove season and like coyotes and beaver, can be killed year round.

Typical reaction when you jump them here is they fly and perch on the electrical lines were as morning doves are long gone to the next section

They were considered invasive in ND for years, which they are. Now this is what the reg says. "In addition to mourning doves, the bag limit includes Eurasian collared doves." I see them in town and in big farm yards. I have only ever seen two at my house in the country.

They (Eurasian Collard Doves) can be shot on sight, regardless of the lack of a season on Mourning Doves.

Act more like pigeons than mourning doves. They have zero protection in Georgia.

I noticed here in Colorado they will take Mourning Dove nesting sites. I kill everyone I see.

We have them and as stated they act like pigeons. They hang around towns and farm sites
Haven't came across them while mourning Dove hunting but they are big enough I'm sure I could tell them apart. Invasive here can shot year around.

Exponential growth here for ECD. Year round season no limit, only key is you have to leave them uncleaned, unbreasted if you are shooting them during mourning dove sesson. In the past, you only found them in town or livestock feed lots. Now they are everywhere. When hunting doves, there are places you could easily shoot 15 ECD along with a limit of 15 mourning dove.

Intersting, being that they don't migrate, often you get one with missing toes or other deformities of the feet from freezing. Looks like they are here to stay. Very easy to differentiate from mourning Dove in flight.

My buddies call'em those big purple footed Bastages(sP) on our yearly dove shoot. Every town in Eastern Colorado is loaded with them year round.

I haven't seen them yet, But just today I mentioned to the wife that some of the doves this morn sounded like the ones in Texas.
