The wife found an odd ad for Perkins today. They, like a lot of eating places, are doing "curbside pickup" of meals a person has called in. But, here's the odd twist on things, this Perkins is also offering selling bulk supplies of various meats (not juts pork!!), some processed veggies, and even paper towels and TP!! I wonder if this particular franchisee going down and they're liquidating their stock or at least rotating stuff that will soon "expire"...?

Update. The wife called the number. It appears that there is only 1 Perkins left still open in our metro and they're doing this offer. I think they're moving/rotating stock for probably the other store in the franchise. She going to make some purchases tomorrow...

They have almost no revenue.

They have a store room crammed with money disguised as inventory.

Normally they would get the money out of that inventory by using it to put the show on the road.

Ie, selling pancakes and such.

Makes sense that they woul flip stuff they're not using, to folks that need it.

Both those restaurant chains mentioned will be closing some places and was in the works before Corona ever hit. Just the final nail in the coffin. That being said, having been in the restaurant business for almost 30 years I'd sell anything I could to keep my head above water.

The supply chain for food is an established business. Even though people need the same amount of food, they cannot go to restaurants to eat and the supply chain is not configured to deliver it in a different manner than it has been doing. Preparation and packaging for a grocery store is different than for a restaurant. Consider folks that eat out two nights a week, and restaurant portions being what they are, they probably get another meal out of their "doggy box" for each meal from a restaurant That means for them 4 of 7 evening meals have traditionally come from restaurants rather than grocery stores. With the delivery and packaging for grocery stores being different than for restaurants, and no one eating at restaurants, food is going to waste and people are not finding what they need or want in the stores. Restaurants are finding a solution to that problem by offering uncooked what they used to offer cooked. That's capitalism at it's finest by adapting to changing market conditions in a way that helps deal with the current situation.

so many people eat out so much that a crazy portion of our food goes directly into commercial packaging and for commercial use

if they can't let people into the store , and they ahve stores without easy to do pickup closed yes sell all the supplies.

think about how many people use the toilet on company time every day and now they are not at work that is still in the supply chain or sitting in a store room.

we are wiping with Gas station type TP the big commercial rolls right now , wife orders this stuff for the co-op gas station , so when the grocery had no TP she ordered us a case of the commercial stuff they use at the gas station. it is not the greatest TP but it works and a roll seems to be lasting around 6 days so with 11 of those left we should be good for 10 weeks

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

The local Texas Roadhouse is selling bags of potatoes and onions at the curbside takeout pick up.
