Charge them for the reduced gas mileage you got with the wrong tranny. It probably made your motor work harder too.

The mechanic there said they would probably have to charge me labor to swap out for the correct transmission. I don't see it that way. The boss wasn't there today, so I'll make sure he's there before I go in and present my case for them to take care of everything. I told them I wanted them to acquire the transmission and install it. I didn't tell them to acquire the wrong transmission and install it. We'll see how this goes. Hoping for the best.

That explains the drastic drop in fuel mileage.

And we have a winner LOL, Glad you got it figured out.

You may be able to check the model of transmission they installed. If you have the 3.4 V-6 it would need a R-150F,this will fit first Gen. Tacoma's of either 2 or 4 WD vehicles. If they put a 4 Cyl. trans in, the model is a W-59 . You may be able to look at a photo online and try to match it to what they installed. Hope this helps.

If it is a reputable shop you should have no problem. I a small town like I live in it would be no problem anyway because around here people know everyone and everyone talks. You just don't do shady stuff around here and stay in business.

Here under the Garage Keepers Act that transmission is actually still your property Paul. Was Re-building was not an optium ? Few people know the act and take their property but those into scrap hauling.

So according to their way of thinking, I take my truck into a body shop for a paint job, they paint it the wrong color & I have to pay labor charges to get it repainted the correct color? Paul, how did you keep from bursting out laughing?

Tell them you want $500.00 In cash and then live with their mistake. You will probably come out ahead In the long run.

Not me. Loosing 3 miles to the gal for as long as a Toyota will run would easily exceed that. Id negotiate a lot harder than that.

With the miles Paul drives it wouldn't take long for that $500 cash to be burnt through the engine.

Did you get up with the manager Paul?

Even if they fix the problem they will probably go to the scrap yard and find a transmission with 300000 miles on one to save themselves money and install it back to Pauls truck.

Nothing. I'm waiting on my mechanic to get back from the beach so he can look at it. I'm thinking he's got a girlfriend there, because he's been over there a month. He's a 30 year retired Toyota mechanic, and that's why I want him to look at it.
