Leftlane, I have caught the odd fox, miles from town, out in western KS too. It happens. Had a feedlot owner get a little irritated with me several years ago. Was trapping between Gove and Tribune and one showed up. Landowner had been seeing it but didnt tell me to release it if I caught it. I pelted it. He wasn't mad, just never thought to tell me to release it. They show up here and there.

Used to be quite a few around town in Hillsboro and Marion. Back in the 80's HWY 56 ran right through the center of Marion and Hillsboro. They built a new HWY north of them. All the rock came from a quarry clear up here at Ottawa. I hauled a lot of it. Out at Marquette is a haydite processing plant called Buildex. I would leave for the week by grabbing a load of that hard white farley limestone in Ottawa, haul it to the HWY project then bounce over to Marquette for buildex and take it to various block plants in CO and Wy.

I would get to the HWY project early. Put in the mind to trap around there when winter showed up. Last time I trapped around there it was for coons about 20 years ago. Did some coyote trapping up by hope 4-5 years ago. No fox showed up on that line.

I counted feed yards as a town practically but yes you make a good point. A lot of them would have a fox family.

How many coyotes did you catch around hope? You have to be careful there because if you trap next to Big Shane the population will be down considerably. I'm not even exaggerating the man is a machine. I lived between Gypsum and Roxbury for 20 years.

I did years back in dirt an snow trapping but like coils better. Take to much room at set, on longs an way trap sits, make harder cover dirt. I use them in dbl no.11 an 1.5 long for rats, dbl for coon in water, like get few 5 dbl next season possibly for beaver

Just my opinion:
That pic of the muddy cat with huge trap should be taken off. Not going to argue, just my opinion. Cannon fodder for the antis.

I use them once in a while.
Easy to bed solid, really hard to freeze in place.
