Looking for a GPS for trapping and general use. I use my phone right now and the hunt shield App but do not like the accuracy. Looking for recommendations for accurate GPS or a better phone APP.

The only different in GPS are the more they cost the more gadgets (options) they have on them. More memory, way point storage, mapping etc.

I have made the recommendation many times on here that the Garmin eTrex series has everything you want on it. Some don’t believe me and “upgrade” to more expensive models thinking they are buying more. Satisfaction? Sure but that doesn’t actually show up on a single menu within any model of Garmin GPS.

A bigger GPS unit does not equate to a better antenna. It does mean it has more storage. It does not mean navigation within the software will be better.

Touch screen? Why would you bother with that feature if you are going to use it in the cold or toss it in your backpack when you are going somewhere? I have owned 2 or 3 eTrex units and have never had a problem with a screen because they are not touchscreens. I just checked the Garmin website and see they now offer touchscreens in the eTrex series, I would stay away.

The reason is because there is a little micro sd card in there that can be removed and put in another one after it falls and gets run over or crushed somehow after just marking your 80th set!!!! This is a true story!!

Also u can put a lot of storage in there with a bigger sd card for more topo maps too!

I like my Montana. I have a charging mount on my Skidoo console. It stays on the whole time I'm driving. Going to put a mount on my boat console as well. Finding where your traps are after blizzards is much easier with a GPS, and land ownership is very important to me, as much of the land out here is Native Corporation, and I want to respect their laws and customs.

Garmin Montana series with a charging mount is my choice also.

Do a lot of geocaching here (geocaching.com) and started with the eTrex 20 (toggle button to scroll). Was fairly satisfied though the location wouldn't stay in one spot sometimes (roamed but know they are only accurate to several yards though I usually have been getting accuracy to feet)). It sometimes changes directions on me (picks up a different sattalite) so sometimes use the compass just to make sure staying on the right path. Got the 64 (they now offer an upgraded model and it offers more features like said (also comes preloaded with thousands of world wide caches) and uses a 4 way "plus" to choose between coordinates, etc. Also notice that when used side by side that it varies quite a bit less. That said I'm using the eTrex20 right now for marking game cam locations, tree stands, etc. (but use the 64 for everything else). Basically all can work but also to an extent you get what you pay for. Don't know anything about the eTrex10 (think still offered) but if you know anyone with it maybe check it out. Very simple and starting price you can find for $70.00 or thereabouts. I haven't used a touch screen model (except for when set mine down when marking a find and have to get my buddies) and for me personally prefer the toggle ones (too easy to hit wrong buttons and sometimes doesn't pick up unless your gloves are off for inputing coordinates).
See now was mentioned about the Waypoint Manager. Good feature as at set can Mark Waypoint, call it what you want and when want to locate set just go to the Waymark location, scroll through to which one you want and go to it. Coordinates wise you can choose Details" and it shows them so you can tell someone them and they can input it to theirs and get to them.
All this is just my preference.
