The first lesson in elk ranching is fences which are two stories high, electric poles for posts and an electric fencer which will knock anything on it's butt.

You will have two primary markets. The first are canned hunts where you sell trophies to hunters for five to twenty thousand dollars. Bowhunters like the illusion of being locked in a 40 acre pen and shooting the big one. The second are the Chinese, which you will saw off the horns in blood velvet, take them to Chicago and sell them to buyers there for cash. Both are a bit iffy with this pandemic changing the world.

Animals lose their allure for most with all the testing, licenses and their being not much more than an east coast beef operation.

Paying for a known pleasure. Hmm. Prostitution? I guess they are both businesses.

There were 4 elk farms near me and around a dozen deer farms. All of the deer and elk farms I knew about near me are now gone due to the state of Ohio's draconian laws, that were intentionally designed to drive the deer and elk farms out of business.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Originally, there were no farm animals. No animals were originally domestic. People should be allowed to keep any animal they want if they follow reasonable precautions.

What I have read of cwd, states should do everything to keep it out or at Bay. Prions get into the soil and stay there.

The WI DNR has been farming elk for about 20 years. And that's about all I'm going to say on the subject.
