Hard to say for sure in photo, but looks similar to what we call henbit (Lamium amplexicaule) down here. Might google search some images and see if they match up. Chancey

Thought you went to a store in Denver. laugh Anyway, hard to tell from the picture but it almost looks like some sort of wild sage?

Henbit it is I think. Thanks. Yes flowers and they say it’ll spread from there. I pulled all these and couple spots were pretty heavy with them and got em all, but you know how that goes with weeds.

Some 2-4-D Amine will do wonders to help control it sadly this is one of those weeds you need to spray early and fairly often .
If your county has a weed board they should be able to help you get rid of them or even a farm and ranch store.
The bad part is if I remember correctly the roots go down twice as far as it spreads out on top of the ground so it can be a challenge to control.

Thanks all. Tried to get up the roots too but sure some are left in. Have never seen this weed in our yard and been here 5 years now. Really stuck out cause I have not mowed yet. The town put a sidewalk there couple years back and brought some dirt to fill some spots in. Grass used to be nice out there but the stuff they brought over has all kinds of weeds coming out of it. Rocks to lol

Got it down here in Metropolis. Usually starts going away when the weather starts getting hot. Have noticed that it seems like it pops up more where I have sprayed weed killer the year before.

After the third mowing each year, it goes away til next spring. Doesn't bother me at all and like Warrior said it's bee feed; honey in the rough.
