Quick question you guys who trap coyote in Michigan. Is Oct. 25 to early to start trapping coyotes. Just wondering would like to get in 3 weeks of trapping them before having to pull for deer season.

That's about the same time it opens here in MN. Seems they're not quite prime yet and I get a notable increase in price by waiting a week or two. But then I have to deal with deer hunters and it seems I'm better off waiting till after that's done. But then black powder season follows and the LO's want me to wait til that's over making it the first part of December. Then if I'm lucky I don't have to wait the first of the year til pheasant seasons over. Usually by then we have tons of snow and cold making it a real challenge.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.

In my area it is hit and miss until mid November then things seem to be pretty good.

Start when you can and enjoy your time - the difference in price this year was negligible between October and November caught butt sniffers. The conditions in October and early November are a lot more conducive to success than the rain freeze snow of the later fall/early winter. I started Oct 20 and pulled Nov 12, my average with Barnes was $61 for green coyotes.

Good luck

Our areas are considerably different. I often don't have to deal with snow until late December. At least not in any amount. [Linked Image]
That picture was taken December 10th 2019. We had more snow on November 16th [Linked Image]
Bobcat picture December 10th, coyote November 16

I start snaring them in late October. They still grade pretty darn good though. This year was obviously not ideal with covid but my October 2018 ones still brought about 120 US. Ones from mid November on were better but I get pretty busy trying to get my kids tagged out on deer for that month so I’m unafraid to make hay while the sun shines in October if it gets me an extra 10-15!dogs.
