I'm a little confused... They had a nurse stitch you up with an injury like that?? That should be the job of a surgeon. No you heard right, it was a nurse and she looked about 17. Even drugged up on Morphine I was skeptical and asked if she had ever sewn anything that big before and she said "Oh yeah, all the time". When she was done another nurse came in to "check" it and said what a great job she had done. If you look at that top pic, you can see the dark purple which was there the very next day... I thought it was bruising, but turned out it was already the flesh starting to die. By Saturday night that purple section had turned white which I thought looked wrong, and by Sunday night a black ring had formed around it and I KNEW it was wrong. I could smell it by then. But it was Easter and dummy me though what's 12 more hours. But then the tree fell down and it ended up being 24 hours. It was pouring out infection by the time I got in. So gross. Once you smell your own flesh rotting you never forget that smell.

That should've been turned into the CDC as a surgical site infection by the hospital. If they did you'll get a letter about it after a few months. I'd hold off paying any bills, or at least if a bill comes in pay like $20 on it. That way it doesn't go to collections. My leg aboce got infected, and ended up developing a biofilm over my hardware. The biofilm, 3 years later, still has bacteria on it that will require me to be on a large dose antibiotic for the rest of my life. That looks like it was sewn to be reopened for some reason. Skin grafts suck. Mine gets these weird pulsing sensations in it. It's really creepy to look down and see it quivering.

I don't know whether anyone turned it in as a surgical site infection or not? Many people have told me I should contact a lawyer, and I might. The nurse that sewed me up told me she left gaps in there on purpose so that it "could drain". So when it started draining puss on Saturday morning, I thought that was a "good thing" instead of a warning sign. They also sent me home from the ER with no antibiotics whatsoever, and told me I did not need to seek follow up care until I got the stitches removed in 2 weeks. Sorry about your deal Elk, can't believe there's nothing else they can do to fix you back up right.
