Jonathan was known for his love of birds, his pictures were always admired by many here on t=man. I thought of him this morning as i had a new bird on the feeders just a bit ago. A Painted Bunting, bird number 34 since i started cataloguing birds in 2003. First new one since 2018, very colorful bird, a male. Wish i could of gotten a pic but ill keep an eye out so might get lucky. Northern range is sc./nc. state line so he's off course a little from here in southern Virginia. Hope all are in good health. Scott

Having lived in Montana the majority of my life I've not had the chance to see many of the bird's you folks mention that you have back east which one of the reasons I enjoyed Jonathan's pictures so much.
What we have in this area of Montana are what we call mtn blue birds, English sparrows , chickadee's and now blue jays along with the collared doves and a variety of wrens and barn swallows.

I toke a drive to fight off cabin fever and got to see 4 sandhill cranes quite a few Canadian geese and miscellaneous ducks which I've always enjoyed watching but I appreciate them even more than I used to .
Allan

I sure miss Jonathan's birds. He had a knack for seeing and sharing. Only migrants here so far are trumpeter swans, snow buntings, and golden eagles. The spring flood of migrants isn't far off though.

It got me more into watching out for them and feeding them as well. A couple of days back the first hummers turned up at the feeder and A red headed woodpecker hs been hanging around for a few days now. Cheers Johnathan

He contributed to all of us with his passion for bird watching and photography in general. I think of him frequently when I see most any small bird species now.

Thank you 30/06 for reminding me to mention the bald and golden eagles , kill deer the blue and green wing teal will be here soon as will the pintails and wood ducks and robins, then our state bird the meadowlarks will be along shortly with nicer weather.
We have a few ringneck pheasants and Hungarian partridges, sage hens and sharptail grouse magpies and various woodpeckers to name a few .
