In your opinion, whats the best staking system for coyotes? I think I might go with disposable bullet stakes and use 1/16 or 3/32 (as mentioned by BillyTraps) Galvanized Cable. But what are your thoughts? I'm just getting into this trapping thing and would like some advice from the people that have done this before. Thanks!

I not saying that setup will not work, but if I had a choice I would use 3/32 or larger

Right, I might have been confused about the size. But thanks!

I like wolf fangs myself. Pretty rocky ground here in Cape Breton. I make them with 1/8” cable

I use 12-18” Super Stakes. All depends on your soil. I can use 12” stakes with no issues because of our clay. Only bad news is I can only pull after a good rain, lol. When this clay drys you might as well be anchored in cement.

3/32" will work but if I am buying cable for this purpose,I get 1/8".It is almost twice the strength but only a penny more per foot.Actually,I use 12"of 1/8",attached to the anchor head and at the top,6" of chain. This gives me the flexibility to have from 12" to 18" in the ground, with no cable protruding above the surface. It is also a little cheaper than all chain.

Stake ends I use fox hollow super stakes. I've used 1/8 cable for years, started to have some failures this year, and yes I dip my rigs. Might just be my ground is to acidic, but I learned the hard way, lost a trap and only had a rusted, broken cable to show for it, so I am slowly converting all back to chain ($$) as that's the best method for me in my area. Best luck

I use the Fox Hollow super stakes-- but with chain. Then again I'm am not a big canine trapper.

I use the wolf fangs and add about 18 inches of chain from there onto my existing trap chain. Tried the cable stakes and liked them but the chain gives me that little extra confidence.

My best ones are stainless cable and stainless chain.Just like my traps,I go over each one, after the season.I clean all mud and dirt off the anchor head, fix any bent ones and remove all burrs and reprise the anchor head. The same goes with the driver.Remove all burrs and give it a shot of primer. This way, when I am in the field, there are no surprises with anchors or drivers that don't work.

I also still use plenty of 18" rebar. They never fail to work and are easier to pull.

Here is my rebar setup, also with stainless,1/8" cable.Sometimes on wolf sets,I will use 3 stakes. This is easily accomplished with two cables. If you had to,you could even go with 4 stakes. Most of the time, two stakes is plenty but if there is the least doubt,I err on the side of caution.

What size cable thimbles do you use on the wolf fang anchors?

If I were starting all over all my cable stakes wouldn't be cable at all but chain instead.
