Very religious people frequently have that wild eyed stare. It's very creepy. The more rabidly fanatical they are, the worse the stare. Usually they want to talk to close to you too. The guys who rant, rave and preach on corners in the cities are a good example.

I meant to spell "wide eyed "...not wise. Yes I've seen that look in various circumstances...drug induced, mentally unstable, fanatical , not a few serial killers, teen mass shooters . I call it Manson stare because he was the first individual with that wild blank expression, years ago, that I noticed . Must be result of behavioral dysfunction that manifests into the eyes. Granted, the sources of that are varied in different degrees, but the base feel I get when I see that is always the same.
