I ran a single 14/2 cable from house to shed, For 6 Led lights with a single pole switch at both ends.
When I turn lights on at entrance lights all come on. When I turn lights off at exit the breaker switches off the power.
What did I do wrong.
Thank you for any advice you can give.

I believe you need 3 way switch and a 14/3 runner wire.

You should have a 14/3 run between the two switches and use two three way switches. It is possible to sort of make it work with the wire and switches you have though. Both switches will need to be on in order for the lights to work. Either one will turn the lights off. If you are alright with this, make sure the whites (neutrals) are tied directly together from wherever your getting power from (breaker). The whites should not be tied into a switch. The grounds should also be tied together as well as go to the green screw on each switch. The blacks are the wires that should go on the switch. If you ran from switch to switch then to the light, you should have two blacks in each box that would go on the switch. What's the order did you put the lights and switches in the circuit?

You are fine on the power coming to the building with the 14/2, but you need 14/3 between two 3 way switches. Google 3 way wiring and you will find a wiring diagram. How far is the 14/2 running and how many amps do the lights pull? I can figure the the wire size and voltage drop for you to double check the 14/2 is big enough if you would like me too.

Yes, 14/2 is a black, white, and a ground 14/3 is black, white, red, ground. They don't count the ground in the number

You guys are right about needing the 3 wire between switches but I don't understand why his breaker is tripping. If I read it correctly thats what happening

A lot of unknowns in your wiring. You obviously have a dead short if you’re tripping the breaker when flipping one of the switches. I don’t know what you mean by the entrance switch and the exit switch. My guess is you have a neutral or ground wire hooked to one of your switches.

This is the same advice everyone always gives. The obvious thing that no one mentions that took me a minute to catch on to was...

You have to buy special 3 way switches. The special switches have an extra terminal for the extra wire the guys are talking about that you need. Ohhhhhh. Duh. (thats me that day.)

The extra wire and the extra terminal are called the "traveler". It makes sure there is power at both switches so that when you close the switch there is power available to run up to the light.

However, if you are accurate in your description and you are actually popping breakers. You have your wires connected wrong or you accidentally shorted your wire somehow.
Using the wrong switches and not having a traveler wire wouldn't pop a breaker... it just wouldn't work. Popping a breaker means you got a black wire tied to a white wire or bare wire somewhere by accident. Either via the terminals you connected wrong or a staple through the wire or a connector through the switch box tore through the covering or something. Sometimes it just the ground wire gets pushed up against a terminal after you shove it in the box.

Probably doesn't matter b/c you have to pull new wire between the switches anyway b/c you need the extra wire. And you need to replace both switches. If you are still popping breakers after that look for the short.

Be easier to just eliminate one of your switches and just have the one switch in the chicken house like everyone else. smile

That "extra" terminal is called the common. The travelers, the wires that carry the power between the switches, connect to the two terminals that are of the same color. The "common" , the odd colored terminal is the terminal that the power coming in is connected to, and on the other switch sends power to the light
