Found this little beauty resting a bit sheltered under the handle on our Brute garbage can this morning after heavy rain last night. I have never seen one like this before. It is very uniquely camoflauged with the pattern and color shades. If it landed on anything with bark it would nearly disappear into the landscape.

It appears to be a Bent-Line Carpet Moth

my guess would be , Tulip-tree Beauty

when my son and I did a inventory with WI DNR a couple years ago , we used a program called I naturalist , you might look into that it lets you upload picutes with gps tags then other naturalists can confirm what you are looking at.

I I searched for pictures to match to yours on Inaturalist https://www.inaturalist.org/guides/5682?page=3

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I believe you are right Pete I looked up the moth and it looks to be an exact match for what I had on my trash can this morning. I have seen them in years past on some trees but they would usually fly off before I could get my camera.

Thank you.

You are too funny John. I think they might be a little dry in a pickle and the wings would probably fall off. sick
