I figure I'll start a NY turkey thread . Season opened this morning . My son and I set up in a blind at a crossing spot in the middle of several hay fields . There are very few leaves out on the trees and the birds can spot you moving from a long ways off so "running and gunning" is out for a week or so . Blinds here are the way to go for now . Anyway , I put a single hen decoy out F/O the blind and started a calling routine . Several toms gobbled around us from all different directions but none were close . After about two hours a flock worked its way from the roost to an adjacent field . There were toms gobbling just over the hill and one behind us but they would not come in . I don't know what I said but three hens from the flock worked their way a little closer to us and when they saw the decoy they bee lined it in and started beating on the decoy . The toms followed and my son and I each got a bird .

That is awesome. Our season starts tomorrow and my son and me will be hitting it together. It will be the first time in almost 4 years that we've been able to turkey together. He works too much. Lol. Congratulations again.

Congrats. though a blind is unnecessary here, just pick one under the bird feeder as they walk up my driveway....

It took 4 and a half days of hard hunting to get my second NY bird . It has a unique tail pattern .
