And castor prices announced. Historical highs I guess. The few reds I had there went PT cheap. Expected it unfortunately.

FUR HARVESTERS AUCTION INC - MAY UPDATE
To all our shippers, this letter is being sent in an effort to bring you up to speed as accurately as possible
at time where much of what we are dealing with remains a moving target.
As many are aware we were unable to conduct an actual live auction back in march. The original plan
was in place to hold the auction in Toronto but the COVID19 virus closed global air travel preventing
International buyers from attending. These restrictions remain in place as to this day.
Our team developed an online auction system in less than one week of our original March dates and had
it working and running so we could start on those dates. We ran the auction for a longer period of time
in order to accommodate new buyers and get them formally registered and familiar with the system.
Prompt date for this auction was set for April 23rd but we made the call to extend it two weeks longer
due to the unprecedented level of private treaty sales. This has had our team working on sales and
invoicing in an effort to sell as much of your product as possible for the benefit of our trappers.
We will be doing the check run beginning the 2nd week in May and checks are planned to be in the
mail by May 15th. This has been a time of much uncertainly and our team has done a great job on all
levels getting this sale to conclusion. Just yesterday we finalized and balanced the tremendous volume of
castoreum sales which at our prices make this an all time historical high. These results can now be found
on our web site. As well our next auction is set for August 20th thru to 22nd 2020.
In closing I find myself now reflecting back over the past few months smiling at the people that work
here. I have long admired and lived by a speech delivered in 1910 by US President Theodore Roosevelt
“The Man in the Arena”. This applies to the team at Fur Harvesters Auction.
Respectfully,
Mark Downey
Chief Executive Officer

I just checked and 88 of my poor rats sold for an average of about $2.30 bringing my average for 125 rats down to $2.83. I have 76 better rats left and 4 poor ones.

Did they sell them for 10% or more above valuation?

I did not check to see what my valuation is or was. I made an error in my adding. The average for those last 88 pelts should have been $2.46 not $2.27 but my average is still >$2.83 for the 125 sold. How does one check for valuation?

While I am thankful for Furharvesters attempt and effort to keep life pumped into the Fur Industry to say I am disappointed in selling XL Fisher No.1 brown B clarity for $16.00 would be an understatement. However I understand that if they were worth more they would have sold for more. I guess that's the bottom line.

My heavy coyotes sold for just a little over half of valuation, not very pleased.

Looks like they sold for 20% less than valuation.

The question is, how long can they hold the line. They have buildings full of pelts in North Bay and Cambridge. The have agents with truck loads of fur in the US. They have pickup routes scheduled for the August sale. They have trappers and dealers with pelts in freezers.

At some point, something has to give. Why sit on pelts. FH has to sell some pelts in order to make commissions, which in turn keeps the lights on and the rent paid. If they just sit on all the pelts, they will end up out of business.

IMO

FHA estimates the value. If buyers are only willing to pay half of the estimated vale, that is the market value for that item at that time. The estimates were either way off or the market conditions they were based on changed drastically.

With everything going on in the world today, it was likely some of both.

Because buyers had their chance at Auction. Why would buyers bid,if they can get it cheaper after the Auction? They won't!

Dirt you are correct my friend however it has been 40 years since I've had.fisher valued at levels like this and while I am fully aware that things are in peril we are talking about an upper end luxurious.skin within extremely minimal annual production of 25 to 30 thousand skins being absorbed by a worldwide population in the billions you would believe that even in a tragic market a number one fisher 3 feet long would somehow be worth more than 16 dollars?? Fisher trapping is my love but I am going think hard and fast before I produce.skins forcsale in the teens. I'll spend the days killing beaver and let the fisher have a field day on the local chickens and housecats!

Beaver is king.Long season, easy to catch in good numbers, good meat-money for pelts and castor, and a pleasure to put up compared to all other large furbearers, and a good market outside the raw fur market.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

80% of beaver don't fall Into that category Boco. 10.00 beaver aren't worth trapping unless you are getting paid to do It.
