There were Section III badger that were valued at $1.00 in the online auction catalog. They sold via PT for 25 cents. That’s quite a discount!!

Got to be to generate some cash, from the packing and handling fees the auction charges the buyers, and to clear the warehouses out for new fur coming in. No cash in that junk fur for the producer even at $1 but the same amount for a packing fee for the auction. $3 US for a badger packing and handling fee.

I've said it for years, the private treaty sales are a detriment to the seller.

Do you like skinning the other large animals like wolf or otters better? You got me there.Beaver is my favorite pelt to handle-easy and quick to skin and no scraping.I would sooner skin 20 beavers than do one wolf just for the smell alone, lol.Otters take longer to cleanskin than beaver-for me anyway, quick to roughskin but then you have to scrape them.

Ask the southern beaver trappers how lucrative that trade Is. Sure you can sell castor but that still doesn't make It a lucrative venture.
I don't see where putting up otter Is such a big deal.
It's not like all the beaver sell at those Select prices. The majority of them fall way short of that grade.

Guess someone is going to get back into making some underside horse saddles with that leather price

I have sold a lot of castor but It still doesn't make trapping beaver profitable. Well maybe for those that think getting paid $10.00 a hour is making money.
Trapping beaver isn't easy no matter what Boco say's.

At some point, something has to give. Why sit on pelts. FH has to sell some pelts in order to make commissions, which in turn keeps the lights on and the rent paid. If they just sit on all the pelts, they will end up out of business.

IMO

My opinion is that FHA made an outstanding effort in the face of what may be the worst market conditions the fur trade has possibly ever faced. Stock markets around the world crumbling, world wide pandemic, massive unemployment, how can producers expect a sale that would even come close to making making us smile?? The bottom line is wild fur needs a major North American auction to continue to be supported. This may be as good as it gets in times like this.

If this Is as good as It's going to be then we are In for hard times In the fur industry.
Myself and lots of others have a feeling that this is just the beginning of the end for the wild fur industry. I hope I'm wrong but things just don't look to good.

The wild fur industry will never end,There are lots of people living in cold climates that value real fur for its exceptional warmth, comfort and durability over synthetics.
Its the fashon part that might collapse temporarily and that is where the big money has always been.
