I spent the morning chasing spring gobblers around the hills of Potter County. I stumbled into a patch of morels and harvested ten of them for tonight’s supper.

Those look like half-frees. Make sure they arent verpas.

Still too early in my area, soil temps need another 5F to get them started.

Hey nut , those are definitely half-frees go easy on them if you've not eaten them before , as some people get sick from em and some don't ! NEVER eat em if that top is smooth and not veiny !

Thanks for the heads up guys. I am very new to gathering mushrooms, in fact this was the first time I actually collected some. I did some research and I believe they are half-frees. Although the stem does go all the way to the top on most of the caps like a verpas, there is no fibrous material in the stems, they are all hollow.

Either way I won’t be eating them.

Lugnut, that six shot in your picture is a little aggressive for mushrooms. Try 10 or 11. You don't need long range, mushrooms are easy to sneak up on!
