I have my
Heart set on killing the slam for turkeys but I am definitely going to be on a budget anyone out there that wants to give me some insight on some mid west states that I could hunt such as turkey populations, public land access, price of out of state tags things like that ! For weeks I have been researching other states and maps but you just don’t quite get the info from a map like you would from someone that lives there and know the answer to these questions first hand any info would be appreciated thanks in advance!

Nebraska goes by color, lol, unless you hit the far NW corner.
Kansas has plenty of WIHA areas for the Rio and tags aren’t that expensive.
NM has a ton of National Forest land and I don’t think tags were that bad for the Merriam, but as others stated SD would probably be your best bet.
You can start putting in for the Florida Quota hunts. We get drawn every 2-4 years for a hunt. They also have some limited entry hunts you pay for but very cheap compared to an outfitter.
And you got the Eastern’s where you’re at.
After all that save up and take a trip, with an outfitter, to Mexico and get your Gould’s to complete your Royal Slam.
Then if you want to shoot a peacock looking turkey that doesn’t even gobble, you can head to the Yucatan and get the Oscillated to complete the World Slam.

No nonresident turkey tags in kansas this spring due to corona virus unless u purchased tags before they started shutting the state down.

The state cut tags from 2 tags to 1 this year due to low turkey population.

A lot of good advice. I heard at one time that very Southern LA has some Osceolas that were released years ago. Probably hybrid by now.

Michigan could use 3 or 4 seasons. So many birds they destroy wheat and corn crops.

It's possible to get three of the sub species in Neb. with a little luck. Merriam and Rio easy. Eastern would take some luck. Like said above it's just a color thing. NWTF don't care they just want your membership.

New Mexico has the prettiest Merriams that I have ever seen, and I've killed quite a few Merriam in Wyoming, SD, and NE.
