Last year at age 64 I called in and shot my first turkey ever I was pretty happy about that .This year I called in and my one brother in law killed his first turkey ever .He will be 63 later this year We are both pretty happy about that .Mine had a 9 inch beard and weighed about 22 lbs ,his was 20 lbs and had a 6 inch beard So both very nice birds For me it is about as good as it gets .If we have learned enough o have finally figured it out we are good .However if it takes us as long to get the second one as the first we are doomed to ever get another

You need a caller behind you and set up 1/2 way in the middle he might slip up then.

In my 40 years of hunting turkeys I have to say this big boy has been the most fun so far, frustrating but fun. I get tunnel vision on these birds and no matter how many other birds I hear gobbling around I always lock on one big old Tom and hunt him til I kill him. We danced again this morning and his hen had me pinned down and he was at 40 yards but I just couldn't get a shot at him. Maybe here in about an hour or so I'll meet up with him again as I made a move to one of his mid-late morning strut sites. Time will tell.

Finally sealed the deal on a good one this morning. I let him walk Early on Saturday just wouldn't commit the whole way because I didn't have a chance to get a decoy out. But this morning was a little different as I was able to get a decoy set out. And I called the bearded hen he always has with him across the field and he followed along with another long beard that looks like no slouch either but the one I shot was always the one doing all of the talking and strutting and I knew he was the one I wanted.one beard 10 3/4 and one 2 1/2". 1 1/4" spurs. Now to fill the second tag.good luck all and stay safe.
