Soon as Nov rolls around I will trap some coon and rats and some chucks. But I will be getting paid to do it. If I sell any fur that will be +.
Once Dec rolls around I'll trap some coyotes but I'm not going to work that hard at It.

I'm going to spend a lot more time in my deer blinds.

If the world can’t absorb the pathetic amount of fur harvest least season there’s bigger problems then supply

You are correct! There are much bigger problems than supply.

Who's going to get the call when a homeowner/ farmer/ business has a nuisance issue? The guy that used to trap or the guy they saw at the local gas station with a dozen coon/ beaver/ coyote in the back of their truck yesterday? Then negotiations begin.

Down here they pay YOU to trap, lol. If fact just got a check today. I make good enough money to fund out of state and even country turkey trips. And I’m cheap compared to the professionals. Think most charge $3500 for two weeks of trapping regardless of catch. But, they are running 150+ traps on a piece of property also. I’m only running 3-4 dozen.

That applies to trapping for profit.

If you are trapping for conservation, the market has no direct bearing, other than as an option for covering some of your costs.

So, you do try to sell your fur or critter by-products to recover some of your conservation costs...? Do you fnish your fur out if the market's low and its just for conservation or just drop the carcasses off to get a little cash, if they take animals on the round?

I’ve had coon off a grill. Wasn’t that bad to be honest. Was greasy and to be honest if it had been picked off the carcass and mixed with some BBQ sauce I wouldn’t have thought twice about it.
I’ll ask the guys I sell to and see how they cook it. They take coon and possums...and pay.

I put up everything I catch. It either gets sold or sent out for tanning to be made into craft pieces.
I enjoy putting up fur.

My MIL barbecued a coon once and it was good. Just the mental picture of what I was eating. If a guy was hungry it wouldn't be a deal.

Second raccoon I ever skinned had worms coming out of its butt hole. No way I am going to eat one of those things.

Don't /won't trap for meat. .if it wont produce economically ,it will stay viable for the tax-payer.,..and that will be assured!

Eating coon is great. Not only do you get the meat but also a side of noodles when the worms slither out of its wrists as you chew.

I plan on trapping with my boys. I wish I was able to efficiently put up my fur. Skinning I'm ok fleshing I stink and am not sure if I'm taking enough off or to much.

Anyone interested in putting up fur if I skin it in southern Indiana within an hour and a half of charlestown? There is a way someone can make a little money on trapping this year. PM me if so.

the coon that I pressure can comes out tasting like roast beef..............its important to make sure to remove as much fat as you can and remove the glands.......

you'd be surprised at how many hogs still have triconosis worms.............and chickens are some of the filthiest critters to ever walk the earth. not saying i'm particularly fond of eating worms....but they are destroyed when pressure canned.

Yeah, I know, but that visual is seared into my brain.

I trap for fun, I enjoy the challenge of getting a critter that has all of God's green earth to walk upon to stick it's foot on a pan the size of a silver dollar, and I eat some of the critters too. If it happens to pay me back a little, all the better. I'll still be out come November.

Par boil the coon meat to remove as much fat as possible. Dump the water don't pull the meat out of kettle while the water Is still In It. It's like boiling and dying traps. Then cook any way you want to.
It's the other white meat In the south. I made some serious money when I was In the coon meat market. Know the coon pimp from Mo has my outlet.
