How do you solder brass to steel? i like the idea of a piece of brass.

Bob cat roughing it up a little will help a little as you found out. What I was referring to was actually cutting serration like are found on the back side of many front sights. This keeps the paint below the level of the steel an out of contact with the holster. Another thing that will work. If the front sight is a “half moon” , with the muzzle pointing to the right. File a small flat at where 11–11:30 would be. Center punch where you want the bead to be. Use a drill press and a 1/16 bit carefully start a hole but only till you get to the width of the bit. Clean with carb cleaner or acetone. Use a single wire from some multi strand electrical wire as a paint applicator put a tiny droplet In the hole you started. If you’re careful you can get a very round front dot that should last for years I use testors model enamel.

Next one I get going to have fiber optic sights.
