I wonder how big of a role his union played in his reinstatement.

Unfortunately this is fairly typical when government employees are fired, even if its for just cause. A year or two at home they eventually get paid for. That is another system that has become broken over the years.

Dropping my grandkids off at the grade school here I found out the doors are locked. They unlock them as children approach. So I guess that if a deranged madman talks his way in (which I think would be easy) and the door is locked behind him, while the cops who DO have the courage to risk their lives for my grandkids are trying to find somebody with a key, my plan is to drive my pickup through the double door.

I cant believe there are people in the world who think locking a madman inside a school will protect them.

Almost as nuts as a cop that allowed a school shooting to continue without even calling it in.

What a scumbag. Getting paid to hide behind a vehicle and then sit at home, while kids he should and could have protected rot in their graves. He got paid to protect those kids, instead now he's getting paid for hiding and doing nothing. I hope he suffers terrible nightmares every night.

Since he's getting his " back pay " I feel it should go to the parents of the kids who were killed or injured while he was trying not to mess his panties as he hid outside safe and sound.

I can not imagine how that POS is able to go out in public. He should have the snot beaten out of him at every street corner.

That army commercial comes to mind...whole town a blaze in the background and the soldiers are running toward the screams and chaos, not running away from it. I guess in my mind that's what those who have the calling to serve and protect do.

My dad was a cop for many years when I was growing up. I remember vividly coming home late at night from grandmas, all of us in the car, dad driving. We were coming through my home town where dad was a cop, and as we were going by one of the bars there was a fight going on outside on the sidewalk, and I remember seeing the then-cop-on-duty getting the short end of the scuffle, yes the ones he was trying to remove had the upper hand and were taking him down. Pretty good crowd around him, one cop in middle and was not winning. I think there were two on him if I recall correctly. Dad didn't even think about it he screeched the car to a halt right in middle of main street, told mom to drive us kids home and he bailed out to go help. Never saw him run so fast toward a situation like that...no radio, no gun, no anything, just running toward a situation in his shorts and t-shirt. Where I grew up was a very small town, a police force of just 4 officers strong, yes only 4 officers that rotated shifts. In a small town of just 1,500 people, there were literally 9 liquor licenses/bars. I still shake my head thinking about that. We could barely support the local small grocery store but they kept 9 bars in business just fine. Anyway, dad was off duty that night we were coming home from out of town visiting grandma, but it didn't matter to him it was not his shift, duty called and he ran toward it. I remember laying in bed waiting for him to come home later, which he did. Mom gave him the riot act when he walked in the door, said he should have let the other officer handle it...but even young me knew that other officer was not handling it from what I saw. Other cop was shorter, overweight, out of shape, and from what I remember clearly seeing he was losing the battle in attempt to oust a couple rowdys from that bar with the whole group surrounding them. I remember my dad just calmly said to my mom, hey my fellow officer was not taking control of the situation and he and our town needed me. I know all those guys, they all know me, it wasn't a big deal to get it calmed down and everyone sent home.

I'll never forget that night, seeing my dad run from our car to a bar fight with another officer in trouble.

I know it ain't the same level as a school shooting, but I have family and friends that have long careers in law enforcement, and I know they don't run from anything. They have shared dash and personal cam footage with me. I have a lot of respect for those who don't shy from situations to protect the public. I never understood why the sheriff at that school didn't run in to help, call while he was running in. Some have it in them, and some just don't, I guess.

Jim

Kudos on your Dad. Probably one of those men the world needs more of.

I think far too many bully's are getting badges today. As everyone knows bully's are usually also cowards.

Victims parents should bring a civil suit on this coward for all he's worth and then some. It won't bring their kids back but it would help bring them some justice for this guys incompetence.

4 officers same as I had, our officers were the same and long serving. I have waded into three domestic violence situations, scary as heck. All three I never thought of the risk just help the woman, and kids per situation.
Today I live in a small town 15 miles from where I grew up. We have 1 yes one officer. Get rid of gun free zones and let teachers carry or have gun on site in some way. We are sitting ducks. Good on your Dad, I bet your mom was ticked.

Hey miller! How many kids are you going to let die today!? That is what he should hear every where he goes. There are things in life that are worse than death. Hiding while kids die ranks pretty high up there.

I'm not defending the cop but since none of us have ever faced a situation like this you don't know how you would react. Sure we can all be computer tough but you never know until the lead starts to fly.

beav i can not fathom being afraid to call for more cops while safely hidden in a parking lot. Not rushing into a gunfight is one thing but not even calling in is another.

He should of been trained to deal with a active shooter that training has been out there forever, doing nothing is not a option you cannot pick and choose what you have to deal with.

It's one thing to be a private citizen and carry a gun only for the defense of your life and your families life, it's a completely different thing to get paid to be put in a position of trust where people trust you to be the one to run in and save their children.

you cant predict panic loosegoose. hard to believe panic is the reason no call was made. i SUSPECT he consciously decided not to call and risk being ordered in. i SUSPECT he just decided he wasn't going to do the scary thing.
