Our Georgia season ends tomorrow and my son asked last night, for the first time all season, if I could take him this morning. We went and tried to roost one yesterday evening and heard nothing and I wasn’t to optimistic about this morning. We went in this morning where they had been roosting and didn’t hear a thing. I mean nothing as far as we could hear. We did a little calling and decided to call it a morning and walked out to go check the traps.
I stopped at a few different locations to call but no response anywhere. We pulled up to the end of the line and our last spot to call when my son spotted a strutter on a hillside behind a small field. We watched the bird and realized there were three and they were working there way around the field in a little dip between the field and the hill.
I had my son exit the truck on my side and make his way through some small pines to where the dip comes out to the road while I was just going to sit in the truck and call.
After an hour and about 150 gobbles between the three birds he finally got a shot! It weighed in at a whopping 17.2# with a 10.75” beard and spurs of 1” and 1 1/8”. The boy was about to hyperventilate!

Sweet WTG, seen/heard several today told the neighbor kid to put in for a mentor tag can’t wait for it to get here the season here runs to the end of the month.
