We ended up buying three hogs today and then my cousin went after a fourth, killed, skinned, gutted, split, and cut into 4 or 5 pieces a half then out on ice in coolers. Tomorow we will cut them up and package them. Was a good day and had fun with some family.

We gave 115 a hog, not a steal compared to what some are giving but a heck of a lot cheaper than a traditional hog. It was a nice learning experience and I look forward to the actual meat cutting today.

That is a good deal and still probably less than the farmer has into them. It isn't all about getting a great deal, but helping farmers recoup some of their loss as well. Good on you.

$115 would be $0.46 a pound assuming a 250 pound hog

if these were over well 250 and would take a penalty fee or the processor would not take them 115 with no transport cost would be close to market value

my sister in laws , sister in laws family had an entire semi of hogs some weeks ago the processor said yes ship and while in transit called and said no can do.

unfortunately I got this news second hand through my dad a couple weeks late to get any of them. they are also a hundred miles away.

I've heard it's pretty easy to build a make-shift walk-in cooler with some 4x8 sheets of insulation and a window unit AC.

So not only are you a fellow Justified fan but you also hang all you meat from a bucket?
I'd wager we have a few things in common LOL.

With a tractor a guy can haul the goodies to which ever barn has electricity and then use a sawsall but I eventually broke down and got a cordless one. I like to hose down the animal as soon as I split it and I hate standing in mud so I love to move the tractor so nobody has to stand in a mud puddle.

Way to go Michael. 115 for hogs that look to be exceeding 250 is a deal.

We got two of the three hogs cut up today, with are group of inexperienced cutters and my father in law that knows what he’s doing it was a long day but a good one. 2 of the hogs were close to 300 one was a gilt and was a little smaller.

Leftlane we used a cordless, and definitely is a million and one uses for a tractor and loader. Don’t tell me Budweiser is your favorite??

We had them lifted over gravel so it never got muddy. After splitting we would lay one side on a table and cut the front shoulder and leg off, then cut the inner loin out and cut the ribs in 2 spots and then that left the ham and back leg. After chopping into the smaller pieces we would hose off them out in coolers of ice. Today we cut the bacons off cut up the chops sliced the inner loin cut up the ribs then ground up the rest made 25 pounds of sausage a hog and the rest went into burger. Local guy is going to cure the bacon for us. Did I mention that the grinder showed up on the fed ex truck today!! While we were cutting up the meat?! I’ll try and post a couple more photos tomorow.

Just finished cutting one up today. Rendering the Lard right now. I paid $100 for one around 325. To big for the plant to take.
