I picked up a 12 foot, plastic Old Town canoe today, for what I consider a decent price. Just planning a few easy local fishing excursions. Anybody else have one?

I think ours is 16-17 ft. Expedition my son bought used and it's one tough piece of equipment. Fish & trap out of it with no problems.

Is that the Pack model? I had seen one for around $300 I tried to buy this spring, but I want quick enough. Picked up a sportspal instead.

I have a Penobscot 17

12 would be kind of handy as a solo canoe

whats the weight?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Wood canvas is the only way to roll.

Here is a 12 footer less than 40 pounds.

Here is a 15 footer less than 60 pounds.

Here is a 20 footer that is to heavy:

[Linked Image]

I also a few 18 footers if anyone is looking, with or without sailing rigs. The boats are all pre-1950 the oldest being a 1904.

Is that a shellac bottom on that first canoe?

I'm a fan of cedar canvas too, my only boat is an old chestnut. I sometimes wouldn't mind something I could drag into my favorite duck creeks.

Yes, Sir. also some dirt on the boat. It did clean up nice and is now hanging in the camp. I like the bigger boats on the water.

Had my tripper on the water yesterday she reminded me how well bahaved a boat the tripper model is, even with a slight cross wind.
That said she's a heavy beast to portage though.

Put my old town disco 119 to use this evening and caught a bunch of trout in a pond I've been meaning to try for a while.

I have an Old Town Guide 14'7". It's the plastic hull. This canoe is very stable and nearly indestructible. I often stand up in it and pole my way upstream. It's much easier than paddling. That plastic hull is HEAVY, though. I wouldn't want to portage it very far.

If you got an Old Town Canoe for $50, you stole the thing. I hope you enjoy the heck out of it.
