The stage racing was implemented for a number of reasons, one of them is to prevent the equivalent of “salary caps” on teams. Other reasons include increasing competition throughout the race and creating opportunities for underfunded teams to gain valuable points, as most stages fall in pit cycle ranges.
Similar to heat racing at local short tracks only losers don’t have to load up and go home. Instead they have an opportunity to take big swings at the adjustments to help get in the final run.

I'm glad some live sports is back up & running. I really don't like the way NASCAR does staged racing. They've been doing it for a ~few years now. It makes it nearly unwatchable in my opinion. If someone knows the reason for staged racing, please let me know. To me it doesn't make sense. I care about who wins the race, not who wins stage 1 or stage 2. To me the racers should focus on winning the race. Thanks NASCAR died decades ago. It used to be great racing. The death nail in my opinion was the restrictor plate. After they introduced that, it started going downhill and like a snowball, has been picking up speed going downhill ever since. I think restrictor plates were the benchmark though.

Yup, it died all right. A week ago millions of folks watched drivers play a video game. lol I don't mean died in the sense that no one is watching. I mean died in the sense that it's no longer racing. It's not the best driver with the fastest car. I expect them to start handing out participation trophies in the next few years.

I’ve been watching since the early seventies and I’ve seen plenty of races where the best driver with the fastest car didn’t win. That’s just racing.

Whether you are riding a bike or jumping with your feet in a flour sack, if you have rules, a starting point and a finish line, it is racing. May not be your kind of racing but it is racing none the less.

Racing is by far my favorite sport. I love it! I was excited to watch the NASCAR event this weekend. It was even being broadcast on a channel I can pick up. So I tuned it to watch it. They were at about lap 125 when I turned it on.
I watched 20 minutes and was so bored I had to find something else to watch. Stock car racing isn't the epitome of the sport, I know. But those NASCAR races are the most boring stock car events I've ever seen. I don't know, maybe that's just a dull track for them.
I ended up searching for an old sprint car race on the U-tube and found 1992 USAC sprint and midget double header from Winchester Speedway. Holey Moley! What a thrilling shows those cars put on! 140 mph at the end of the straight in those twitchy little boogers. Then toss it into the high banks half-sideway, gas it up and hang on. Smoke rolling off the right rear tires, sparks flying out from under the cars as the frames bang off the asphalt. What a show. Those drivers have reflexes like a cat and nerves of steel.
I remembered why it's more exciting to watch a midget sit on a trailer than watch a NASCAR race. But I'm glad they are gettin' after it again.

It’s boring because they make it look easy. Next time you are on your way to the grocery store roll up on the sharpest turn you can think of at 100mph. lol
I’ve been to plenty dirt track mods and sprints that got boring. Strong car and driver lapping the field stinking up the show.
