I was online somewhere the other day and found a whole a new series of books written for 10-12 year old kids that were all hunting or trapping oriented. I seen probably five or 6 listed right off and i think there were more. Anyways I should have just got them or at least properly saved the page. My daughter loves to read and really likes hunting and trapping and is pretty hard to keep her in books. If anyone would happen to know of anything let me know.

My Side of the Mountain and Where the Red Fern Grows are hard to beat! I read them to my class every year. Also check out books by Gary Paulsen. He has written many good outdoor-related books for young people.

American Buffalo is a great good. Takes place on the Copper River in Alaska. Just bought two paperback copies to give to friends.

The Leatherstocking Tales by James Fenimore Cooper - includes The Last of the Mohicans.

The saga follows the life and adventures of Natty Bumpo. In the last book, he is an old trapper in Missouri.

Excellent writing.

Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee

Hie to the Hunters... Published in 1950 by Jesse Stuart...

Story-line:

Fourteen-year-old ""Did"", a city softie, is persuaded by sixteen-year-old Sparkie, tobacco-spitting toughie from the hills of Kentucky, to return home with him, in this warm likeable yarn of Kentucky mountain men and the possum hunting, fox hunting, trapping and running with the wonderful hound dogs which occupy much of the time.

Anything by Jim Kjelgaard. My favorites were Haunt Fox, Stormy, and Swamp Cat although Big Red is hard to beat too.

Fred Gibson had some good ones: Old Yeller, Little Arliss, Hound Dog Man, Savage Sam.

Way Back in the Ozarks by Howard Hefley (there are several books by this guy and his brother)

Greg Paulsen books

Sterling North : Rascal and The Wolfling

The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Wilson Rawling's Where the Red Fern Grows was already mentioned but Summer of the Monkeys was pretty good too

Jack London's Call of the Wild and White Fang
