I’ve been through the archives a handful of times on this and I can’t find it so here goes. Has anyone welded in an insert to “fill” the manufactured offset? Seems pretty doable and I was curious to see if it had been done previously.

Thanks for any insights.

Why would you do that?

Wish I had more time to trap....

Yes it’s been done with square stock I believe. Makes it a close jaw 650. Decent beaver trap if I remember correctly.

I'm itchin' to see a coyote twitchin'.

More trappin' and less yappin'.

Think I had Duane Fronek from Wisconsin do that for me on some traps...square stock...lots of grinding if I remember right.
If you look at Kendall O.’s No Bs predator trap...if a guy were to fill in that gap it would make a nice beaver trap.

I’m stuck in the Commonweath of Pennsylvania where my max trap size is 6.5”. I like chasing the beavers come winter and I like having a coil spring to supplement the long springs and my max two conibears. I like the MB build but the offset is less than desirable for beaver. I’m hoping I can make a better beaver trap out of the 650 with some welding.

Never consider anything like that

I understand, just didn't think of that since we have no size restrictions.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Waste of time and material.Grinding off the offset lugs will accomplish what you want,as long as the lever stop lugs are long enough.I don't have one in front of me .It may give you a slightly uneven fit but I can walk you through an easy fix for that.I wouldn't do it on the cast jaw models.

You worried about opening some inclusion on the cast jaw?

Taximan I’ll follow up with you. Pretty sure where you are headed but would love the insight.

Strike2 I used to live up in the Mitten. Houghton was always nice but we ran around Gaylord. Fished the Pigeon back before all that dam overflow killed everything.

I wish I could just run the 750s but not willing to be an outlaw to do it.
