Whelp, I didn’t draw any tags in Nevada this year. Going to start doing some research on OTC elk hunts. The hunt can be bull or cow. Rifle or muzzleloader. I don’t have horses but do like backpacking. I also didn’t draw a moose in Idaho, so I already have the hunting license in Idaho. Any/all recommendations welcome.
Pat, as usual, you are right....

CO has the best population with 4 major elk herds, but still a lot of square miles of habitat. Elk is an elk 365 days a year. Hunter is a hunter maybe 14 days a year. The elk know you're there before you ever shut off the engine. I know a fella that drew a tag in a really good area in Utah or somewhere. He had a guide and saw a lot of good elk, but the guide kept telling him "I'd hold off, there's better...." He held off and went home empty handed.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

well, being a former Idahoan, you know where I'd go!....Chamberlain Basin or Hells Canyon, 2 of my favorite places to chase elk. No cow tags (that I could find) in Hells Canyon. Does Chamberlain Basin have another name, I can't find it.
