Whelp, I didn’t draw any tags in Nevada this year. Going to start doing some research on OTC elk hunts. The hunt can be bull or cow. Rifle or muzzleloader. I don’t have horses but do like backpacking. I also didn’t draw a moose in Idaho, so I already have the hunting license in Idaho. Any/all recommendations welcome.

CO has the best population with 4 major elk herds, but still a lot of square miles of habitat. Elk is an elk 365 days a year. Hunter is a hunter maybe 14 days a year. The elk know you're there before you ever shut off the engine.
I know a fella that drew a tag in a really good area in Utah or somewhere. He had a guide and saw a lot of good elk, but the guide kept telling him "I'd hold off, there's better...." He held off and went home empty handed.

Life ain't supposed to be easy.

well, being a former Idahoan, you know where I'd go!....Chamberlain Basin or Hells Canyon, 2 of my favorite places to chase elk.

I did CO last year. Tried 3 different units. But all where crawling with people. The last place we tried was wilderness. 12 miles from the truck and still couldn’t get away from the crowd. I won’t go back OTC. Not there at least.

No cow tags (that I could find) in Hells Canyon. Does Chamberlain Basin have another name, I can't find it.

I have been to Idaho many times and also Colorado. Colorado like previously stated is way overrun with people, and I wont likely hunt there again. Idaho has recently changed their quota for out of state elk hunters so you may want to act fast. I would look into what state is still allowing nonres. to purchase there with the rona thing.
