I'm sure that the same media lies are happening with jobless reports. I know the shut down put millions out of work , but as states reopen and people are called back shouldn't the numbers go down? All factories and some businesses have reopened here. I guess it takes time to get the stats tallied.

Last I saw I think WI unemployment rates were at 14%. Will likely stay there until August when the extra federal unemployment money dries up at the end of July.

Unemployment was lower than it has been for decades, under the Trump administration. Now thanks to an 'accidental' escape of a 'manufactured' virus by the communist Chinese, and power hungry liberal governors, people are forced to take unemployment. Coincidence? I think not !

There are a lot of self employed and contract workers which show up on what is called the supplemental UE list so there is probably more than what is stated. Also the UE nationally comes from the federal administration departments. This is also a very good time for many companies to use the federal funds to stay liquid and work to "right size" their labor force. Many laid off employees will not have the jobs they were laid off from in the future.

Washington finds it paid out hundreds of millions in fraudulent unemployment benefits


"Sophisticated criminals" have used stolen information to fraudulently receive hundreds of millions of dollars in unemployment benefits from the state of Washington.

Suzi LeVine, commissioner of Washington's Employment Security Department, revealed on Thursday that imposters have used the stolen identities of tens of thousands of state residents to apply for benefits. LeVine said an investigation is underway, with the state and federal law enforcement working to try to get the money back. She was unable to give any specific numbers, as this is an active case. "These are very sophisticated criminals who have pretty robust collections of information on people, and they are activating and monetizing that information," she said.

Last week, several media outlets reported on a Secret Service alert about a Nigerian fraud ring targeting Washington as part of an attempt to commit large-scale fraud against a state unemployment program, The Associated Press reports. LeVine said prior to this, officials had become suspicious when employers began calling and saying they received information about benefits that their workers did not request.

LeVine said countermeasures have been taken that "prevented hundreds of millions of additional dollars from going out to criminals and have prevented thousands of fraudulent claims being filed." Now, applicants who set up direct deposit will have to wait longer for their payments, as the state is taking extra time to verify claims.

Since businesses first began to close in March because of the coronavirus, more than 1.1 million people in Washington have filed for unemployment benefits, AP reports. Washington's maximum weekly unemployment benefit is $790, the country's second-highest amount, which "does make us a more attractive target overall," LeVine said.

Just saw Iowa is at 10.4%

Some of that figure is contrived. My dental hygienist was complaining she made more on unemployment than at her job. I personally know 3 people that will not return to their jobs as long as they get the extra $ 600/wk in federal money on top of their unemployment. Meanwhile their boss and others are working overtime and weekends trying to keep up with orders. This is a local company that makes custom wood paneling and decking.

Sounds like the boss needs to start firing folks and rehiring. That money won’t last forever.

When you file for UI, at least in Wisconsin, you're asked if you turned down work from your employer. I don't know how that affects your payment though since that's not my situation.

But that extra money to sit at home is keeping people from returning to a job that pays less.

In Nebraska and Iowa if you're offered your job back and don't take it, you lose your unemployment. It may be that way in other states, but then it may be up to the governor of that state.

Of course your employer has to contact the state to let them know you wouldn't come back.
