A retired truck driver I know always had a new pick up truck. I asked him what it cost he said he had no idea, he trades in every x years and tells them he will take it if the payment is not over 500. I can not justify the price they want if something is not making me money. And I couldn't see getting a new one and beating the crap out of it even if it is making me money. I had payments on a new one once and will never do it again. I pay cash up front and roll the dice. My son in law is a mechanic so I have that going for me.

Have not had a car payment since 1982. Bought a brand new Ford Bronco in `86 and paid cash, and have paid cash for every vehicle ever since. Save ahead, pay cash, and put the interest money in your own pocket.

I don't drive something I can't pay for in cash. I don't look near as cool as some people but I don't care.

I buy a new truck every 10-12 years. Never payed more than $400 a month, but always put down a substantial down payment and always buy plain jane trucks.
What I can't understand is why people buy $70,000+ vehicles.

Nope no joke. You either had money to start out with, if not you lived on someone else until you saved $$ or someone gave you money...you were an heir. Or maybe you won the lottery.

Debt is how most of got started and for a poor man debt is how you get started...

I guess you could be living in a shack and driving that truck you bought in 1970.

Btw...my home is paid for. Still have 1 vehicle payment...bought a new 2016 Tundra 4x4...and my Honda 700 side by side. Other than that utilities. But I'm pushing 56 years old. Family dont have no $$ so no heir here. Everything I have I worked and paid for...mostly monthly....raised 2 kids that are grown now....pay check to pay check...got 3 or 4 more years and I'm retired....will have 30 years service and a decent pension...but I had no nest egg or help when i started a family at 20 years old....did thanks to loans.

Got good credit, low interest rates.

I started working young and I lived in the bush,in a cabin in winter and worked as a forman on the RR extra gangs in summer where board was provided and money was great.I was single and banked almost every cent I earned for a few years, after that it was easy going, never looked back and never had debt, except for a mortgage for 11 years when I bought the house when the kids started school in town.
I had a great downpayment (over half)and the mortgage payments were low and short term.Still had plenty of money to put away.
Also made a lot of money off fur back in the day.
I always made way more money than I ever needed to live, and I live pretty good.Never did without anything all my life.
Its called work ethic.

I didnt have a wife that would live in the "bush" when I first got married...to the first wife. I'm on #2 now... and even though she grew up in the swamps of south Ga she dont want to live in one now....I would but not her.

I've also never rented a home. Bought my first, second, and last home...you guessed it....by mortgage...ie. monthly debt. A man's got to live somewhere when he's "working for everything he's got."

Also got to have a dependable vehicle to get to that job while "working for everything." Again...debt..

Lol, I think 30,000 is rudiculous for a truck.
