I figured it out. And I'm being honest about this. Plus it all goes back to what a man wants and what he wants to provide for his family. If a man dont want much then he dont need much to get it.

Nope, didnt have money, didnt inherit money, didnt have anyone give me money and didnt live off someone else's teat. I went to work at a young age and was taught strong work ethic. Just as important, I live beneath my means which allows a person to save and invest. Ive never had cable tv and many of the other things that young people often wastte their money on. I had car loans early on before i wised up, im not perfect by any means. But I sure as heck am not sheep enough to get brainwashed by financial institutions into thinking you 'have to go into debt' Being in debt is normal, I choose not to be normal. It aint easy, but it can be done with some effort. Swamp, not trying to degrade you or your opinion, but you are wrong.

Not degrading you either but where did you live while you were saving up. If you had your own place and were not at home with your parents then you are an exception and good for you. You should be proud of your accomplishments.

But you have access to the wasteful internet....

I agree debt is normal....

Bought my first house on a 15 yr fixed loan (again, before I wised up). House cost less than the trucks folks are talking about. Socked all my extra cash into extra payments and had it paid in 21/2 years. By freeing up that mortgage early, it allowed us to save, invest and start getting ahead. It was a real eye opener and I realized early how debt could drag you down. Sorry if I came off a little strong, I think I took a liitle too much offense to being pigeon-holed as someone who had not earned what I had. Guess I need thicker skin Lol

Not sure what you are trying to imply by that statement, but if you are implying I didnt have much you'd be dead wrong.i was well off when I got married and started a family because I didnt want to be scrimping under debt and not be able to provide everything for them.
At this point in my life I have too much and will soon buy my kids each a new home.
And they are both responsible hard working adults and I know they will benefit from it.

Good for you. What you did is outstanding. My point was that just about everyone starts out in debt, unless they have other means or help. You did too, you just got out of it quicker than most. Most people continue in debt to acquire better vehicles, land, etc as they progress thru life.

Hope you are not flooded in Midland...been seeing that in the news. Take care.

Not implying anything about you Boco, but people that state that have never been in debt or utilized loans are likely not being 100% honest in this thread about their start and their means in building their own life.

Bought a new car today for the better half. With the company loyalty discount of 1% the interest rate worked out to a wopping .89% for 60 months. Zero down made the only sense, who in their right mind would buy a car with their own money?

Too bad you didnt read the fine print where they hide the "cost of borrowing" at zero percent, lol.
Works out to around 10 percent.
Your money ahead borrowing from the bank at 5or6 percent than financing thru the car company at 0%.

Another thing-never trade in a vehicle at a dealership.
Spend a few bucks to get the old one professionally cleaned and detailed and it will sell privately for 3 times the trade in offer.

Major manufacturer dealerships don't finance vehicles at least the imports I've bought in recent years or guided my young adult kids to buy , their loan officers act as brokers between buyers and banks or major lending institutions. My own bank who I've been with my entire life and have an excellent credit rating with acknowledged they couldn't match what the dealership can offer because of the volume of business they bring to the major banks. When I can negotiate a price somewhere lower then the MSRP with the dealer cost disclosed and walk away with a purchase financed at .89% I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase.

We have 2 Ford Rangers, 1 Ford F250 and a Pacifica all of which we bought from the owners used. I am thinking about financing a compact Kubota tractor with belly motor, loader and tiller.

By the time I turned 19 when I graduated from high school had enough money saved up to buy some land and a small house.

Self starters who become wealthy have done so because they have embraced and have no fear of debt.

I will borrow money all day long when it makes me money. If properly managed, a person who borrows money will make more money faster than a person who doesn't. That's assuming both start from $0. If you don't have a hammer you can't drive a nail.

Zero dollar monthly payments here. My preferred method is to buy a beater that needs a bunch of work, and get it super cheap. I put in a few hundred dollars worth of parts in it, and I've got a vehicle with zero issues (except being ugly) that I know will run and drive without fail, for a total cost of a couple thousand dollars. I like having a vehicle that I don't have to worry about, that I can just hop in and start it up and go, but don't want to spend a bunch, so it's easiest for me to just fix up beaters.
