Nope, didnt have money, didnt inherit money, didnt have anyone give me money and didnt live off someone else's teat. I went to work at a young age and was taught strong work ethic. Just as important, I live beneath my means which allows a person to save and invest. Ive never had cable tv and many of the other things that young people often wastte their money on. I had car loans early on before i wised up, im not perfect by any means. But I sure as heck am not sheep enough to get brainwashed by financial institutions into thinking you 'have to go into debt' Being in debt is normal, I choose not to be normal. It aint easy, but it can be done with some effort. Swamp, not trying to degrade you or your opinion, but you are wrong. I play the same tune, Zero debt, lots of paid for land. A hunting cabin on 145 acres with trout river, 5 acre lakefront home with guest cabin. The wife and I had 2 kids before 19 years old. We work hard, grab every rung on the ladder of life. High school education. Played every angle to make legal $$, buy fix and sell cars, firewood, mechanic work after hours, yard work, tree work, sold hand loaded pulp wood. You name it. Now at 57 wife and I have great jobs and no debt. new pretty truck for Sundays and company paid truck and fuel for my job managing a treated fencepost mill. I apologize to nobody for my sore hands and worn back.
you're only allowed so many sunrises... I aim to see every one of them!

Self starters who become wealthy have done so because they have embraced and have no fear of debt. Thanks Crit-R-Dun! That's true in so many cases. We all have different paths. I've made a lot of money by taking on loans. I've taken on some doozies but I believed in my investments. Leverage can be a beautiful thing. I don't mind vehicle loans as a business expense either. However, I hope I never succumb to spending 70K on a new diesel pickup. But a young person, looking at a first home; my advice is to make sure it is a good investment and you can pretty comfortably make the payment, and go ahead and get a loan! Especially with rates where they are. I can't advise against buying a nice rental property, if you can find one, at sub 4% either. Heck, use your cash and loans to buy two!

My 2018 Ford F150 listed for more than my house I had built in1973 and two of my farms I have now, The wife and me set down and figure the cost of something and if we have month left over at the end of the money we don't need it. My first car was a new 1965 Mustang that I paid $1995 out the door wish I had it back.

Wife and i try to only have one car payment at a time. We buy Hertz rental cars for cars, 20-30k on them. And i buy new pickups or order them in as work trucks and run them out 10 years. Keep a savings account also and use it for money down and new accessories. Hard to find a bear bones work truck any more, my next one if all work's out will be a 1969 chevy 4wd 3/4 and researching now to put a Cummins diesel in it .
Let me sugar coat this

Wow all this chatter over a average monthly vehicle payment. Each to there owners I say. I bought my first new vehicle in 1994. 12000.00 at the time. I had a trade in and some cash. I refuse to pay over $25000.00 for a vehicle. My trucks are work trucks. The bed gets beat to heck. I will get 300,000 out of my truck before I buy another. The bottom line is this. Some people are just smarter than others. I owne a 2008 Chevy Silverado. 140000. Just broke in. Make payments. Buy outright. Whatever works for you. I learned a lot from an old Mink rancher. He made a lot of money in the late 70s. Worked hard for every dime. Invested his money wisely. Worked and lived like he did when he was young. Looking at him and his car you would never known he had enough money to choke a horse. In his later years he would dig in the grocery chain dumpsters and dig out the boxed and canned goods the store thru out because the date expired. Can't do that now. His kids would give him a hard time about it. They where embarrassed. The rancher told me there is no shame in hard work and being frogle That is the problem with our society. Keep up with the Jones. We need we need. Again do what works for you. As for me I got a dumpster to dig thru. There is no way in God's green earth that we will ever keep up with Matt Jones

I haven’t had a truck payment since 2005. Was looking at some new trucks recently, and I don’t care what you trade in, payments aren’t going to be $500. Truth Not true, well might be true with fords, dodges or toyotas. Seventeen months ago I traded my 2016 suburban and my 2017 silverado (had payments on both) for a new 2018 silverado. The dealer wrote me a check for the difference. So I went from $1000 a month payments to $0.00 a month. Car payments are for the birds.

How many people answered the OP’s original question? LOL You know dang well that isn’t how it is done here! Half the people here blame the liberal media ( which may be true) or traps made where they think they should or shouldn’t be made, and a few that are made where they don’t think they are made. Then tell them what they should be asking, instead of answering the question. Or Dave asking a question and getting great or middle of the road advice, but because he doesn’t like the answer he asks again until he hears what he wants to hear. Like the kid asking about bridgers and someone saying he should get MB’s. Well dang he bought Bridger dogless and wanted to know if he bought good traps. He didn’t ask what trap he should have bought.... geez. Blue bucket set with 1 1/2 dukes will catch and hold everything! Fight me!!! Oh, and people with pet skunks are great and are the pioneer of the social distancing pet! FYI, I wouldn’t change it one bit!!!

When I graduated from High School I bought a brand new 1977 Z28 fully loaded and by Dad thought I was nuts because my car payment was as much as his first house payment; $157/month. Now these current car payments are as much or more than my first house payment. Bet you wish you still had that one...
