Baby coons beside dudes shower enclosure in the wall. Mother was getting in from below, old cottage.
Homeowner blocked off entry. Coon just started pushing in the soffit.
Homeowner caught coon in live trap, then heard no babies, assumed they had left.
Homeowner released coon nearby after a night in a cage, coon was back that night.
They heard babies and mom moving around again and called me.
I was out last night, and back this morning. Poop cleaned out of attic, wall patched up and gone. Water access job by boat.
How would you have approached it?

Depending on where they are located and amount of destruction it takes to get to them, sometimes (at this point in the game) it's best to let the little ones grow big enough to enter and exit on their own. Little ones were squirrel size. And with mother cage shy now, things were tougher. Also, homeowner has two dogs.

Don't trap the sow at all. Wait till she's out foraging, remove the kits and put them in a box, complete the exclusion work and the sow will return and relocate them.

Try some Eviction fluid. Pups may be a bit old now but it’s worth a try. I’ve heard of trappers having good luck with it before, but I have no personal experience with it.
Everything the left touches it destroys

Well, right or wrong, here is what I did. Took wall apart, and grabbed little ones.
Put pups in separate cage, and set outside with some bedding in small cage. Placed double door cage trap beside cage with pups in it. Upon recommendation of a friend, wrapped up pup cage in a blanket first. Apparently if a mother is caught in a cage and pups are in reach, she will kill them trying to pull them through the mesh.
I figured she was cage shy, regardless of pups as bait, so I set a dog proof a ways away and baited with trout pellets.
This morning, was correct. She messed with the pups, but refused to go in the cage. She was waiting for me sound asleep in the grass in the dogproof this morning.
After the homeowner blocked off the primary entry, the loose soffit proved the easiest way in and out.
I am not doing the exclusion work as they are having their roof redone soon and the contractor agreed to fix up the soffit while he is there.
Coons are not my thing. Always beaver and bear here. Live trapping is a different critter. Beaver don't get live trapped!
Took a few hours to redo all the pine panelling and trim in the bathroom as there was no access to the attic in the whole place and had to make a hole. Pays to be a licensed carpenter when doing this stuff. Made good money and the homeowners are thrilled to be able to get some sleep finally.

I completed a nuisance beaver job and reluctantly agreed to completely dismantle and remove the debris from a cottage property lakeshore beaver lodge which we accomplished yesterday. Fortunately I had my two young adult boys to help, not that I expect to be able to ever trick them into that job again. Anyway, if ever there was a use for explosives.........
Good work on your coon issue Hutchy.
