Go for it! I will add that if you eat crabs you already eat a scavenger, and they are delicious, just like possum and sweet potatoes!

Thinking about penning up some possums for a couple weeks to clean them out by feeding them table scraps and fresh water. They are such scavengers eating rotten roadkill and such. I can't afford beef and pork anymore. It is getting so expensive. I'm right there with ya man. I'm trapping groundhogs. I pressure cook'em and shred the meat off the bones. You can do a lot with them. I add them to spaghetti sauce, make like creamed chicken with cream of mushroom soup and roast them with taters and carrots. Gotta do what ya gotta do.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Possum is good ,the thing about them is so fatty. That is the problem with them. More fat on them then coon. trim the fat off as much you can and remove the glads you got some good eating ,Yes I eat them like coon and muskrat and beaver. If it is fix right you will not know what you are eating like anything else .

I trapped a few of them that spent the late winter living inside of dead cow carcasses and I just have not got past that yet. A couple weeks of cleaner food does not do that for me. Muskrats yes, grinners no.
Bryce A neighbor of ours was telling us a story about buying piglets years ago. Got to the farm to buy the piglets, followed the farmer out into his pasture, pulled up next to a dead horse carcass. My neighbor said "where are the piglets?" Hog farmer pointed to the dead horse and said "in there. I'll give it a kick and you grab them as they come out".
