on a canoe? I finally got my dream canoe and am thinking of ways to propel it. Wondered if maybe a mini mud motor might be cool.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Does doggy paddle count lol. I seen one Jerry where it looked like a weedeater, and it pushed along pretty good.

If you went any bigger you might need a outrigger.

This is a stout canoe with a flat stern, she'll take a bit.

I was going to suggest a small block V8 long tail iff you have room for the fuel tank .......

Lol Flint, yeah I know I can't put a biggun on there, that's awesome you gave it a go though. I'm talkin bout a lite weed eater type motor and looking for advantages/disadvantages about scooting it across swampyness. And open water too.

I would buy a 2 1/2 or 5 horse outboard. I have a 5 horse Mariner I run on my 16' skulling boat and it is light and you can turn it clear sideways or backwards and maneuver into tight places and get back out easy. Small mud motors will push you forward and get you stuck and you will fight with a paddle or push pole to get out. They are hard to steer and fight you the whole time they are running. Noisy compared to a small outboard too.

That's what I'm lookin for Jeff, thank you. I just got a 15ft Sportspal and me and the boy are gonna do a bunch with it. I'm looking for the easiest way to get her going. My buddy has a 30lb thrust electric motor that will get me going. I would like a old Johnson or Everrude.

Harbor Freight has a 3hp predator ($99) motor that might work for a canoe, I think it only weights 20lbs. you'll have to figure out the long tail part...does not look complicated. That might be a option for the swamps when giggin and trapping turtles, I'll check that out.

I have run a 23 HP Stump-Jumper on my 16ft. modified V for 20 years. I have beaten the living **** out of it hunting, fishing, and trapping out here in the backwaters of the Mississippi. The water here is filled with stumps, weeds, and sandbars and my motor still gets me where I want to go. Bill's Engineering (builder of the Stump-Jumper) is right out here on Brice Prairie. He makes a fine product and knows what he is doing. I have an old (50's) Herters Model Duck and Goose skiff that I have run with 4-6 HP outboards since 1984. I am now thinking about putting a long-tail on it for duck hunting. I am at the point of trying to decide if I am going with a small Stump-Jumper or with one of the Swamp Runners (Thailand), either of which I will put on a motor of about 6 HP. Cost may be a factor at the Stump-Jumper runs just north of $1,000 and the Swamp Runner will be around $500. My thought is that while the Swamp Runner is certainly cheaper, it does not appear to be of the same quality as the Stump-Jumper, and I still have quite a few years of running the sloughs ahead of me. Will need to decide soon. If you want to take a look www.stump-jumper.comMoosetrot
