Is the cancelation of conventions having financial ramifications on Fair Grounds , Dealers, Associations , or Trappers in general .?

it has for me I buy and sell used traps and fur and other stuff over the fall till the next spring for the summer conventions .right now have a shed full of used traps and antlers and no place to sell them . don't have the time to listed them on here and sell a doz here and there than pack them and ship them. I will have close to 2,000 in tanned fur coming back soon from leo. so still hoping for the nysta fenner and zerbe conventions we will see

It goes far beyond that; motels, restaurants, gas stations, just a domino affect. By now we all know the risks and the precautions to protect ourselves. I don't like politicans telling me what I can or
can not do. My thoughts are that we should fully reopen and let the individua decide wheter or not to attend. Same thing with going to church.
On the other hand, what do you do with things like school buses and classrooms? I think from an economic standpoint we must reopen, every day closed is destroying the country economically.
What about all the people not working and unable to pay their bills?

Definately affects the dealers, especially folks like nyrat and the small guys with a tail gate spot or one booth. The major dealers - MTP, F&T, Cumberland’s, etc. - they all have web sites and do a lot of mail order (which will be bigger for the ), they come to conventions to meet people, deliver orders, etc. It could very well save them money, especially if the conventions refund the booth rent.

Another loser is the cities where the conventions were to be held. Motels, restaurants, activities for the family to do, etc. there are quite a few trappers that combine a convention with a family vacation. The town will lose a lot of tourist dollars.

ANY tourist dollar supported venue. I rely on the Alaskan tourist market this time of year! It died an ugly death and there are hundreds, of not thousands of folks that are rapidly going belly up because of it.

Do you think your Alaskan tourist market will come back? If so, how long will it take? Just curious.

Compared to overall collapse of fur market, then no not much effect. Truthfully most conventions are not high in attendance numbers, and especially now. Organizations might claim high numbers or that they need the conventions for the operation of the organization, but I doubt either of those are really true.

I certainly think the tourist market will come back. I'm not dependent on tourist dollars but I do live in Alaska. It will take time to get back to where it was before coved. The tourists need the money to travel. I would speculate it could take several, 3 to 5 years to recover. That's only if some other problem doesn't knock the US economy beach again.

It's bound to affect the associations. The conventions are the main fundraisers for the NTA.

I do a fair amount of business selling snares and snare supports along with other snaring supplies and now a few used traps to help out a friend of mine who's dad passed away and he doesn't trap so I'm trying to help them out which as you can imagine it's not working out very well now ha ha .
I certainly do miss the conventions and getting to see and catch up with old friends while making new friends as well.
