President just announced a price cap of 35 dollars a month for anyone taking insulin. My wife has needed insulin for 41 years now. We are blessed that her insurance pays all but 89 dollars for the 2 types she needs.
Oh yes GIANT announcement but CNN and MSNBC were busy talking about penguins and party goers this last weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A niece I think said she's paying $6-700 per month for insulin. That sound right? And we're giving drugs and needles to junkies.

The difference between the $ 35 and what it used to be for a copay will probably be made up by increases in the monthly premium for a given medicare plan. Unfortunately, the insulin manufacturers and the insurance companies probably are not going to decrease their margin/profit.

No I just watched it again (had it DVR) and the CEO of ELI LILY said effective IMMEDIATLY anyone who is not on medicare but was using their insulin would not pay more than 35 dollars a month.Yes medicare starts next year with new plans. BUT if you have health coverage your carrier may try to change you. My wife had used lilly brand for 14 years and anthem tried to force her to another brand. It is the one you can buy at Walmart without a prescript. My bother uses it for his dog. 10 bucks a bottle. Her arm broke out at each site of an injection. The dermatologist ran a biopsy on it and said it had some foreign matter in it like a crystal. .So they gave her a PA to get back on lilly brand

Im like White how will it the difference in price be mad e up?? more taxes? I hear everyone scream about socialism but unless Eli Lilly is going to take a big hit on profits someone is going to pay. Rob, Peter to pay Paul.

Lots of room for others down the road for decades to pick and choose what, and who to target. Yes capping costs to the user is good for those that need whatever is being capped but it does not stop the total cost from being the same or even going up, just a different revenue source being tapped.

Well if it cost 6 bucks in 76 and there was profit I can't see how there isn't profit at 35 bucks in 2020. What happened to cause it to go to 300? No competition? I suspect it is the same thing causing college tuition to get so high. If a destitute student can borrow 60-70 thousand over 4 years guess what a BA will cost. If medicare sets the price cap at 300 then same thing.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I would guess that regulations have narrowed the number of companies producing insulin. If Trump threatened or actually reduced regulations, the market could open up and substantially reduce the price of insulin. I have little problem with controlling the price if we (the Govt.) have helped create a monopoly that companies then use for profit.
