Im new to the business. Burnt my (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) once with an educated beaver and undercutting myself to get the job. How do you guys charge by animal, job, or hour? Some pros and cons of how you charge? Do you guys charge to go inspect the job and to give a quote? Any input would help.

I like flat fees for x length of time. Never really liked per animal fees in my work as it's almost always one maybe two animals. Some jobs might be flat fee+per animal. Just have to find what works for you. Inspections are usually rolled into the job, I don't give freebies as your just telling the client what to do and they'll do it themselves and you wasted your time and not getting anything for it.

Who is your customer - local government agency or private party?

Do you have any competition in the area?

What from Christ that soul can sever,
Bound by everlasting bands?
None shall take thee
From the Strength of Israel's hands.

Usually a small job one or two beavers so I figure it will take me three days to do the job. Set up and two checks. So I just tell folks it will be a three day job, I charge $100/day plus mileage. I also tell people that even if it takes more than 3 days to complete the job any extra work is on me and is mileage only. I guarantee I get the beaver and will remove any additional beaver that move in for 30 days.

With new customers I get everything in writing.

I get good reactions from most customers on this model. I should note, I'm not in the ADC business as I'm a fur trapper, but this is how I handle it.

My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

$250 per animal here, that includes setup and pickup and milage. This is only when they have not been shot at, and when it's not a "cleanup operation", I have to carefully ask about this. I don't travel more than 20 miles one way.

Our trappers council runs a very successful nuisance beaver program here for about 35 years.
Right now the rates are $.45/km for up to 5 trips, $75 per beaver, and $50 for returning water to natural flow/dam removal. This program is run by the fur council and utilizes all the local trappers who sign on.Using this method contracts pay anywhere from $200 to $2000 depending on distance travelled and number of beaver and dams removed.
A co-ordinator issues contracts, dispatches trappers and verifys the work.
A secretary bills the clients, and issues cheques to trappers.

Quite a few trappers councils run nuisance beaver programs, and set their own rates etc.
Some councils also run nuisance bear programs.

The provincial trapping assn provides $5 million liability insurance to all paid up members-this covers all trapping related activities.

Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.
