In kansas the castle doctrine extends to your place of work. Deadly force is authorized if someone is unlawfully entering your dwelling and you believe you life is in danger or bodily harm could be caused. According to what I just read.
Won't take no prisoners, won't spare no lives.

here in ks yo u can use deadly force to protect property if you have no other reasonable course of action. reasonable of course is not defined. looting and burning i think would qualify as reasonable cause. 21-5223. Use of force in defense of dwelling. [Amends K.S.A. 2010 Supp. § 21-3212] (a) A person is justified in the use of force against another when and to the extent that it appears to such person and such person reasonably believes that such use of force is necessary to prevent or terminate such other’s unlawful entry into or attack upon such person’s dwelling, place of work or occupied vehicle. https://ag.ks.gov/docs/documents/self-defense-statutes.pdf?sfvrsn=516a2f2b_4

I say deadly force should be reserved for deadly situations, any thing other than that is unjustified. That, of course, doesn't mean you just have to let people take your stuff. You should of course be able to go hands on and detain someone, using whatever force that takes. I have to agree, IF someone is taking item out of my garage I have to call the police.

During a situation simulation at the Criminal Justice Academy the one I got wrong was a courtroom setting and the witness left the stand and approached with a knife. I was confident I could disarm him so I didn’t shoot. This being a justifiable shooting situation for the sim, I got it wrong.
I would think if a situation is justifiable for law enforcement, it certainly should be for a citizen.

It's very hard to defend against a knife attack. If you do, prepare to get cut. The police are in a no-win situation. I feel for them. The problem is if you have to think to use deadly force, it very well may be too late. If someone broke into your house or business it would be near impossible to tell if that person would not have evil intent. The rule is do not let a knife get within 30 feet of you, a drill to try is you face a target with your gun holstered a runner faces the other way to start. The runner takes off you the draw and shoot the target the runner stops when they hear the shot. Turn around and see how far the runner gets.

Why does the looter have more rights than the shop owner .
If the nightly news showed a bunch of them welfare collectors gunned down in the middle of the street it wouldn't take long for a new reality.
But instead the news glorifies the chump who ( only with practice ) can run through broken glass and burning cars with six boxes of size 13 high top Nikes.
We live in a world with no consequences unless you are a law abiding citizen

In the dark, moving around doors and clearing houses, you will only have a few feet. In that case it best to bring your own knife to a gun fight. Like one of these. https://spartanbladesusa.com/The rule is do not let a knife get within 30 feet of you, a drill to try is you face a target with your gun holstered a runner faces the other way to start. Shoot the first one then stick his head on a pole out front as a deterrence. Seriously,if it is a black perp and you are white-no you cant shoot him for any reason or you will be railroaded to the fullest extent. If he's the same colour as you, fire away.

On news tonight there was a reporter standing outside a business and the looters were carrying out stuff as the camera was rolling. Lol

My plan is to avoid ever needing to shoot anybody. If that fails go to a jury if needed. Hiding a body is definitely a real bad idea. If you are discovered you will absolutely go to jail.
