It really doesn't matter as long as you can weld it. As thin as you can get so you're not wearing yourself or your tools out cutting it. I use an inch to two inches. I like the smaller for land sets as it's easier to hide and don't have to worry about closing one end. The bigger pipe for water sets for more eye appeal. You will have to close one end.

For those that are using them are you anchoring to the pocket or elsewhere? To me the pocket would tangle everything up or am I missing something? I understand you can use them on downers for water but don't get the land use of them.

Only tangling issue is if you place the pocket close to a tree or fence within the length of the chain. Chains should be minimum 4ft

Minkless, anything from 1 inch to 2 inch that is 1/32“ to 1/16 inch wall and super cheap at the scrapyard


Grizz, I know many guys use them on land sets, with pipe about 8 to 10 inches out of ground, with brush pulled up from three sides so it kind of looks like a trash pile set but with a hole in it with bait, Trap chain go through the stake also.

scored some 2" pipe tonight. looks like it was the safety net holder on a trampoline. powder coated white even!
