I got a Ka-bar folding knife from a guy whose fiancé dumped him, back when I was in college. I had just got back to my dorm and saw him down the hall with several other guys from my floor trying to talk him out of killing himself. He had cut himself with the Ka-bar a few times shallowly and was holding it to his throat threatening to kill himself with it. I went down and he started saying "I'm going to do it" over and over. I grabbed his wrist in my right hand and hyper extended his elbow with my left hand and made him drop the knife and then two other guys grabbed him too and we hauled him to his dorm room and put him on his bed. I sent a guy to get the Resident Assistant and the RA called the police. The police came and took him to the hospital.

Somebody gave me the knife and I gave it to the guys roommate, Brian.

The guy came back a few days later and started threatening to kill himself again. Tony, who was a jerk who lived on our floor, started egging him on to kill himself and told him to basically just do it. Brian, the roomate, came and got me. I shoved Tony hard into a wall and grabbed the folded knife, Tony was holding and stuck it in my pocket. The police showed up and took the guy away again. He dropped out of college and his parents came and got his stuff. I kept the knife.

The same guy broke his wrist, twice, punching the cinder block wall, before that. The second time he broke his wrist, he still had a cast on.

I carried the Ka-bar for year afterwards. I use the Ka-bar to cut deer now

You need to be a little cautious when buying a "KaBar" knife, if you want a real one. There's a lot of fakes out there.

That's true Moosetrot. I got duped on Amazon, bought a sweet little Cutco/Kabar sheath knife model like the one my buddy carries for small game. I always admired it. The advertising led me to believe it was an American made Cutco/Kabar but when it arrived it said "China" on it. I returned it.

I bought mine in about 1997 from an army surplus store , new production. was about 70 dollars

they are still about the same so really not bad at the time I could fill my F150 dual tanks for 40 dollars

You can try ebay. I bought mine 20 years ago and i think it was around 80 bucks then. After carrying mine through a few deployments it has more sentimental value than use.
