It was good to see that again. Brought back memories of Dad getting me up to watch some of the launches in the early seventies.

We watched it on TV. Wife worked at NASA in Houston on the shuttle program for 9 years. Brought back a lot of memories for her.

I lived in Florida when the Shuttle went up the first time and watched it from Titusville which was miles across the Indian Rive from the launch pad. Even at that distance the roar of the engines were deafening and the ground shook like an mild earth quake. The was a lot more fire and smoke from the shuttle than the flight today. It was marvelous. I saw 3 of them go up at that location before I moved away. Even after I moved about 75 miles north you could still them once they got up above the horizon... I stood and watched the one that blew up and knew instantly something bad had happened to it.

We watched it on tv. Great to see some American pride. Hats off to them. Hope and pray for a perfect docking tomorrow at the space station. Then a happy and safe return in 3 months. Maybe before I die. I hope to go to space. The goal is regular space travel for all

I read that the cost was comparable to what the Russians were charging us for a seat +/- $55 Million.

From a fox news article..

"NASA has identified the cost of sending astronauts to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket at $81 million per seat. Before the Space Shuttle program retired, NASA said it cost an average of $450 million each mission to launch the spacecraft.

However, the agency is looking to save money through its Commercial Crew Program. Sending astronauts to the ISS aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon or Boeing CST-100 Starliner is expected to cost just $58 million a seat, according to NASA."

So what was the point of them going for a fly?

I just read we pay 75 million to the Russians every time one of our astronauts ride into orbit on a Russian launch.

Like many things our elected officials spend tons of dough on I have to ask what the goal is?
