Neither of those spiders are wolf spiders. Both are Dolomedes tenebrosus, fishing spiders. I have them all over inside my garage, and used to keep large females as pets often. Completely harmless, and spiders are better than humans. I thought the same thing. we had them at a house we owned and those suckers scare the crap out of me. I smashed or sprayed everyone I saw, and besides we didn't have any fish in the basement. !!!! we have moved from that spider infested place.

Looks like Apple tree. Decent size, I would saw that up for lumber, makes beautiful lumber for smaller projects.
The spider, meh, not scared of spiders but the initial surprise of having something run across my hand would cause a schoolgirl scream from me. Not too proud to admit the truth. Yup, I considered that but at this point, I need firewood more than lumber. There are a few more that my friend will probably want chopped down. Maybe then.

Did you make it through the night??? Yup, I only wet the bed twice. I've found that sucking my thumb helps though.

So funny...I came to the farm this morning and when I grabbed the grain bucket to feed the donkeys there was a wolf spider on top of the leftover grain. He passed quickly with a 24 ounce Vaughan framing hammer as it was the closest thing at hand.
I hate spiders but respect their place in the world. This afternoon I saw a 3 foot long snake next to the garden and didn't kill it so I guess I'm good karma wise.

When this sucker came out of the knothole and ran across my hand! Good Lord, I hate spiders and this was a huge one. The picture doesn't do it justice and it was fast! Oh, Finster! Yikes! Zim had a similar thing happen to him in the bottom of a load of cut wood. He came running into the house to grab a gun! I stopped him before he blew a hole in the trailer, got a can of Raid and did battle with the thing. After I finally won, I set the empty can on a stump and spread out the soaked spider as my trophy next to the Raid can. They're a big weakness for me, but even bigger for Zim. He takes care of most things, but I get the spiders. That's one wicked looking spider, Finster!
