Saving a local lake. They drained it 6 years ago for dam repairs and I feel as though it may be on the back burner so long that they just let it go back into woods. It's only about 60 acres but it's our only close lake to fish. I've talked to a few ODNR and DOW guys and they are all great guys and are very helpful.

My question is, what would be the best way to go about saving it? I'm thinking maybe a letter to the editor of our local paper to drum up support and maybe writing letters to the ODNR Chief and our State Reps. Any ideas would be appreciated!!

I recall you posting about it before but I don't remember which one? They are fixing Tycoon and Veto lakes this summer. DOW got some money to help clears it's 100m+ capital improvement backlog last year.

Dig up the original documents/permits allowing it to be drained. I would bet there is something in there pertaining to the repairs and subsequent refill including the agencies responsible. Use their own language and deadlines back at them.

If there are property owners around the "lake" they are most likely paying lakefront property taxes. They would be a good group to advocate for a refill.

It's Shreve Lake. I've fished it since 74, it used to be an awesome fishery. They have been saying they are gonna fix it but every year they say something else came up. The last one was Buckeye Lake I believe.

Post where you can on social media you get a lot of bang for your buck there start with who ever has a finger in the pie and work your way up if you hit a roadblock find out who writes their checks and keep going to the top. Find out who does the PR and work with them. If all that fails do a letter to the editor in the local papers then. Be nice until it’s time to not be nice.

Burn down a lake or two (this is Ohio afterall) ought to get some media involved.

I had an idea the other day, I thought how cool it would be to make a mosquito net cover with drawstring or elastic to keep it on and spend a night sleeping in it on a lake. A guy should be able to lay down in it fairly comfortably on a sleeping mat and sleeping bag as long as he's not swatting bugs all night.

Used it a couple times since I got it, but not since I've painted it. Used a canoe paddle, but plan on trying it with a kayak paddle to see if I like that better.

I think it's on the list to get fixed next year, bidding for the contract is supposed to be done this year according to the last news I've seen on it . Have you talked to the area or district managers to see if that's happening?

You might contact the Sportsman's Alliance as they are behind the push to get funding to fix the budget hole. If you're involved with any big conservation groups in the area, kick them in the butt as they aren't getting much support outside of the OSTA.

Thanks Sniper, I belong to OSTA but that's it locally. I will check out the SA. The manager I spoke with the other day said there are no set dates for anything as of right now. They basically put everything on hold from how I understood him.
