Antis love to hate wet markets and want to shut them down but there is no evidence that covid made the leap from animal to human there so another anti lie shot down. One reason this idea has gained such traction is that it dovetails with conservation efforts. Many wet markets sell exotic, endangered and highly trafficked animals such as pangolins. And it would be a victory for animal conservation, he said, if markets like this one were shut down after being blamed for the disease. But that doesn't mean that the evidence is there.https://www.livescience.com/covid-19-did-not-start-at-wuhan-wet-market.html

Pardon the stupid question, are wet markets what I call live animal markets in NYC? Where people sell live goats, sheep, and chickens to ethnic groups?

Wet markets are where food is kept from spoiling by keeping the animal alive until a buyer comes along. The animal is then butchered (wet work) and the meat is provided to the buyer on the spot. It's actually a quite effective system used extensively by human populations, especially where refrigeration is not available. A few handfuls of corn each day makes quite a bit of sense when electricity and refrigerators/freezers are not available. Anything that involves the killing of animals for human food is opposed by animal rights groups. The opportunity to attack any facility that turns animals into food will be taken advantage of by these groups, justified or not. Thanks for the explanation, EDP.
