Outstanding fishing trip! One of the best fish ever!! Probably my second favorite fish.
Wish we had em here, gotta go all the way to New Jersey for them .

You take incredible pictures Eddie, nice catch too!
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

the filet claw is an awesome tool..
I got one given to me by the guy who makes them when he was trying to market them years ago, and it works great...

How does the filet claw work? Is it to hold the skin for removal or is it a multi tool?
Chris I've lost probably a half dozen of these over the years and now they are UNAVAILABLE! Down to my last one... As Hupurest said it is an awesome tool almost as important as a filet knife to me... It allows you to remove one filet and then skin the filet ( just at the end and holds it incredibly) until you actually use one its difficult to describe how great it woks... I have filleted down to the base of the tail and used the fish rack as a handle to remove the skin in a pinch but the tool works way better than any other method I have tried... ,.,.

Those gill plates are razors! Those are some big bass too. They have to be 10” in the Gulf (or the were the last time we caught some) and a limit was sometimes hard to come by. But, talk about some good eating!! Congrats on a great trip and catch. Yes Wanna Be you are spot on their gills are razor sharp Ours have to be 12 and 1/2" to keep we usually don't keep any under 14" (just a nicer filet)... They are great dipped in batter and fried!!! Here is the recipe I use ... Crispy fish fries, crispy fish fry, crispy flakey crust, crispy flaky crust Ingredients: Use any white fish… 1.2kg salt 2g / 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1g / 1/8teaspoon all purpose flour 70g / 1/2cup oil for frying all purpose flour 150g / 1cup corn starch 75g / 1/2cup baking powder 4g / 1 teaspoon salt 2g / 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1g / 1/4 teaspoon chili powder 1g / 1/4 teaspoon white vinegar 2g / 1/4 teaspoon These guys were swimming in the ocean less than 24hrs ago (now that's fresh fish) ,.,.

I may still have a couple in some old tackle boxes. They slip over your finger and have a "saw blade" type edge filed into the part that holds the fillet. I may have to see if I can find one and get a picture. I LOVE those knife sharpeners!!! Fish looks great too.
